Scarpetta's first trailer is out and it is giving all-out crime thriller energy. The show is developed by Liz Sarnoff and is led by Nicole Kidman in the titular role. The series stems from the book series written by Patricia Cornwell.

The show lands on Prime Video on March 11, 2026, expanding the platform's already impressive crime thriller slate. Prime Video already has shows like Jack Ryan, The Reacher and other titles.

Right at the trailer's beginning, Kidman's voice declares:

"I, Dr. Kay Scarpetta, do solemnly swear, I will faithfully and impartially discharge all of the duties."

Nicole Kidman will play the protagonist, Dr. Kay Scarpetta, who is a very intelligent and skilled forensic pathologist. In the book series, she uses medical science to help solve complex murder cases. The fan favorite character was first introduced in Cornwell’s 1990 novel Postmortem. The character swiftly became one of the most popular and recognizable figures in modern crime fiction.

The Prime Video adaptation aims to pitch that clinical precision and psychological intensity to the viewers. Not to mention, the show will have a strong ensemble who have proven their acting skills.

Nicole Kidman is also acting as an executive producer on the series. Jamie Lee Curtis is attached as the co-star who will reportedly play Dorothy Farinelli, Scarpetta’s sister. The project was picked up by Prime Video with a two-season order, and season 2 is not far from being possible. The show's creator has previously worked on Barry and Lost.

While detailed plot specifics are being kept under wraps, the show is expected to draw from Cornwell’s expansive body of work, which spans more than two dozen novels.

The full cast consists of the following actors:

  • Nicole Kidman as Dr. Kay
  • Jamie Lee Curtis as Dorothy Farinelli
  • Bobby Cannavale as Pete Marino
  • Simon Baker as Benton Wesley
  • Ariana DeBose as Lucy Farinelli-Watson
  • Rosy McEwen as Young Kay
  • Amanda Righetti as Young Dorothy Farinelli
  • Jake Cannavale as Young Pete Marino
  • Hunter Parrish as Young Benton Wesley
  • Janet Montgomery in a supporting role
  • Mike Vogel in a supporting role
  • Tiya Sircar in a supporting role
  • Anna Diop in a supporting role
  • Stephanie Faracy in a supporting role

In the trailer, Scarpetta says:

"I came back to this job because I did not like how I left things the last time around."

The trailer establishes a few things: the debut is going to give a deep dive into the criminal world that is gory and bloody. But the series holds its charm thanks to Kidman's sensitive, grounded acting.

The show lands on March 11, 2026, on Prime Video.
