OG fans of the franchise and the character have so far loved the news, as Stevens looks the part and has the skills to play the role. The character of Alex Murphy has been played by actors like Peter Weller, Joel Kinnaman, and Robert Burke, among others. Alex Murphy is a beloved character, and not an easy character to cast. Fortunately, fans are excited to see Dan Stevens as Alex Murphy since the general opinion is that he has the personality required to play the character. While Murphy cannot grow a mustache, Stevens' mustache has somehow made him the right choice for the fans. Besides Downtown Abbey, Stevens' previous work includes his roles in Legion, Beauty and the Beast, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and The Ritual, among other projects. Besides the upcoming RoboCop series, Stevens is also going to star in a number of projects yet to be released. He will be seen as Owen Stark / the Five Borough Killer in Dexter: Resurrection, Bill Haydon in Legacy of Spies, Hans Kammler in Onslaught, Travis Beasley in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, and in an undisclosed role in Babies. Danielle Bozzone, who represents Blumhouse Atomic Monster, is co-executive producing the series. The series was greenlit by Amazon MGM Studios in July 2026.
