X-Men '97 Season 2 returned to our screens with "Strange Land, Savage Heart," a 28-minute-long episode in which Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler plays an important role. In this episode, one of the old villains, Bampfs (Bampf being the sound of Nightcrawler's teleportation) back.The said villain is none other than Graydon Creed, Rogue and Nightcrawler's half-brother, as Kurt and Graydon share Mystique as a parent (mother in the show's continuity). In X-Men '97 Season 2, Episode 7, Creed runs for president when a mutant extremist group consisting of Exodus and Colossus/Peter Rasputin crash his rally. We see Peter Rasputin trying to save his sister Illyana/Magik from dying and failing to do so. Then, the episode cuts to present-day Graydon Creed announcing his intention to run for president. As that happens, the mutant extremist group Acolytes, which includes Colossus and Exodus, attacks the rally.The Acolytes kidnap Creed and send a threatening message to the world in exchange for the release of the mutants detained by the X-Factor. Charles Xavier convinces Val Cooper to let X Corp take care of this situation and sends Bishop, Polaris, Beast, Nightcrawler, and Rogue. They have located Creed in the Savage Land, which returns to this continuity after the original 90s animated series.Most of this X-Men '97 Season 2 episode is set in the Savage Land as the X-Men's jet is destroyed by the Acolytes, stranding the team. Moreover, they are separated, as Bishop is in a race against time to save his life. The Acolytes have weaponized one of Mr. Sinister's machines and managed to take the X-Men's powers away.Bishop is hit by radiation that's building up in his body, but he can't release it, and failure to do so could kill him. Therefore, Bishop and Polaris decide to destroy the power dampening machine. Meanwhile, Colossus and his comrades discover Beast, Rogue, and Nightcrawler. Nightcrawler reveals his purpose to Colossus, who refuses to let Creed go.As X-Corp and Colossus' team are about to come to blows, Kurt de-escalates the situation by convincing Peter to show him, Rogue, and Hank Savage Land. The Acolytes also take Kurt, Rogue, and Hank to Creed's cell, and Nightcrawler tries to reason with his half-brother. But Craydon is defiant, making Exodus ask Peter for permission to execute Creed.Nightcrawler convinces Peter to hold a hearing for Creed's crimes. If Nightcrawler wins, Colossus would let Craydon Creed go. However, if Kurt fails to convince Colossus, the Nightcrawler will join the Acolytes, in addition to letting them execute Creed. The trial begins, and Exodus brings up Creed's misdeeds, including the creation of the Legacy Virus in the original animated series, as a reason to execute Craydon.Meanwhile, Kurt simply asks Craydon Creed why he hates mutants, and we are given this detested character's backstory. In the show's continuity, Craydon is Mystique and Victor Creed's son, but Mystique abandoned the two after the child's birth. This meant Craydon grew up with an abusive Victor Creed.Creed reveals that he wished throughout his childhood to grow up to be thirteen in hopes of his mutant genes being activated. However, that never happened, and he suffered constant abuse at his father's hands. This revelation does make the angry mutants a bit sympathetic towards him. As Peter is about to give his judgment, an irate Exodus attacks him, and Kurt intervenes to help, starting the fight.As that happens, Bishop and Polaris manage to attack the power-dampening machine, meaning they can use their powers again. This levels the playing field as Kurt and Exodus are engaged in a battle. As Exodus is about to kill Kurt, Creed deceptively shoots him and holds Kurt at gunpoint, threatening him to take him out of the Savage Land.Kurt takes Craydon to a snow-covered landscape. Kurt leaves Craydon there and returns to the Savage Land. It seems that they informed Charles of Creed's location, who relayed it to Val Cooper, who sent the X-Factor team. Colossus returns to the X-Mansion along with Kurt. When Kurt asks Peter if he convinced the latter, the Russian mutant responds no but also says that Illyana would've been convinced.Then, this scene cuts to the X-Force (Cable's team) walking into the same Greek temple from last week's X-Men '97 Season 2 episode, where Apocalypse revived Gambit. There, they find Apocalypse's shriveled body. They find nothing but a destroyed card, which belongs to Gambit, ending the episode on a cliffhanger.X-Men '97 Season 2 Episode 7 is currently streaming on Disney+.
