5 most iconic Dr. Mark Sloan moments from Grey's Anatomy to remember Eric Dane as McSteamy by
1) Mark Sloan in THAT elevator:
There are iconic character appearances and then there is Eric Dane as Dr. Mark Sloan in that jam-packed elevator. Derek, stuck between Meredith, Addison, and Rose, already makes up for good drama on TV.
Then Mark walked in, sensed the awkwardness, and dropped a banging line. On, if only i could have an entire tub of popcorn every time I watched that scene.

“I bet you wish you’d taken the stairs.”
It was pure Mark because of just how shameless and funny the scene was and to top it off, he didn't even try too hard.
This scene also just showed how Eric Dane's Mark functioned at Seattle Grace.
#2. The TOWEL and the STEAM = McSteamy:
Grey’s Anatomy gave Eric Dane a.k.a. Mark Sloan a nickname that stuck for seasons, and why would it not? Derek went to talk to Addison, hoping to figure out their relationship. Instead, the bathroom door opened and Mark walked out, wrapped up in nothing but a towel.

That was it. Him being called McSteamy did not seem like a bad idea.
Eric Dane leaned fully into Mark’s confidence. This turned him from Derek’s problematic best friend into a fully formed diva at Seattle Grace.
From that point on, McSteamy was not just a nickname but it's now part of Seattle Grace's ancient history.
#3. Welcome to Seattle Grace:
Before fans even saw Eric Dane's Mark Sloan on screen, they heard about him because of Derek’s anger. Derek had found his best friend in bed with his wife and well, that's one hell of an introduction.

When Mark was finally in Seattle Grace, his face was met with Derek's punch because Derek saw Mark shamelessly flirt with Meredith at the hospital.
This scene is what first defined Mark’s entry on Grey's Anatomy and we instantly understood that Mark would never be boring and Dane made sure to keep it that way.
#4. The man who saved Alex
Season 6’s shooting episodes changed how many of us saw Mark Sloan in an entirely new and different light. Until then, he was known for his charm but during the hospital lock down, Mark really did step up.

Even when he was dealing with his feelings for Lexi while she was in a relationship with Alex, Mark could only truly focus on saving Alex's life. He protected Lexie but he also helped keep Alex alive in any way that he could.
Eric Dane showed us a different side of Mark here. He was still the confident surgeon but somehow he was now also deeply loyal. This storyline only proved that Mark was more than just being McSteamy, the hospital’s charming plastic surgeon.
#5. I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you...
Nothing scared us Grey’s Anatomy fans harder than the plane crash in the Season 8 finale of the show. Mark and Lexie were finally honest about their feelings with each other but the timing never seemed to be right in the cards for them.

While being tapped in the woods with many injuries, Lexie spent her last few minutes being alive with Mark lying down beside her. He imagined a future with her and even after he let go of his own consciousness due to injuries of his own, he never let go of Lexi's hand.
Dane delivered one of the most emotional performances of the series here. Mark’s love for Lexie felt heard when he repeated “I love you” over and over again and that is when this scene became one of the most heartbreaking scenes in Grey’s Anatomy.
Soon after, Mark also passed away due to severe injuries in Episode 1 of Season 9 due to the same plane crash that took away Lexi's life.
Eric Dane gave Grey’s Anatomy a character that had it all. Cockiness, humor, confidence. As Dr. Mark Sloan, he gave us a lot many iconic moments that we still revisit years later.
From his first on-screen appearance in Seattle Grace to his final goodbye in Season 9, every scene he was in somehow felt like it should've never ended. Dane’s legacy as McSteamy is now a part of the show’s history forever and it's safe to say that McSteamy too, will be in our hearts, always and forever.
May Eric Dane's soul rest in peace.
