Few fans were present at the memorial and were speaking about Deborah’s greatness. Right at that moment, Deborah comes out of her car. The moment the fans see her, they are completely scared.

However, Deborah makes them understand that she was not dead and it was all a misunderstanding. The fans are relieved. They then point out Deborah’s outburst and the impact it had, which makes Deborah get in her car and leave. Inside her house, Deborah begins to angrily read through the various articles that have disrespected her.

Ava is also shocked at the content of the articles and tells Deborah that she should not have gone on the digital detox. This episode of Hacks Season 5 continues with Deborah understanding that the damage is already done. The only way they can get away from this situation is if they shift the narrative with “something bigger than all of this.” On the other hand, Jimmy and Kayla get the bad news that Jeff Dunham will not be signing with them.

Jimmy is completely devastated. He knows that just because they cannot do business with Bob Lipka’s companies, their clients will leave them. Jimmy then tells Kayla that they should downsize because of the expenses that they are not able to afford. However, Kayla refuses right away. She does not want to hear about downsizing anymore. Kayla thinks that despite the high expenses, they are “projecting” success, which is essential for this industry.

Right at that moment, they get a message that Deborah has set up a meeting with them. They leave right away so that they can reach the location on time. This episode of Hacks Season 5 continues with Deborah finally getting the idea that can change the narrative of their situation.

She rushes to wake Ava up and begins to tell her that she needs a “legacy-defining win” which the media will not spin into a negative one. She does not want to be remembered by other people’s terms and wants to be remembered for her achievements. Her plan is to EGOT. She already has an Emmy and a Tony, so she needs a Grammy and an Oscar to spin the narrative.

Ava did not expect Deborah to say this; however, she encouraged Deborah for this. This episode of Hacks Season 5 continues with Deborah reaching out to meet with the team to discuss her step towards EGOT. Jimmy, on hearing Deborah’s decision, tells her that her contract is the issue. However, Deborah can film something as long as it is not released until the noncompete is over.

Deborah becomes extremely happy with this and decides to move forward with it. Deborah then tells the team that she will compete in the best audiobook category by recording a memoir. After the meeting ends, Jimmy and Ava speak about Deborah’s decision. Though Ava knows that Jimmy is right, she tries to make him understand the situation that happened with them in Singapore.

Jimmy then asks Ava to write something that will bring international success and also have the potential for a sequel. Ava then tells Jimmy that Deborah gave up the show for her; hence, she will not be able to do it. However, she asks Jimmy if she can send the Mall Girl script, which she wrote in Singapore. Jimmy agrees right away.

However, Kushner believes in an immersive process. He then begins to speak about Deborah’s ancestors, which begins to bore Deborah. She understands that it is not going to be a quick process. On the other hand, Jimmy, Randi, and Kayla discuss the category for which Deborah can win.

Randi suggests that Deborah’s ties to The Fatty Arbuckle movie can be a good start. However, Jimmy is not eager to do it.
