Netflix's Bridgerton has returned with a brand-new season and a brand-new love story. Season 4 focuses on Benedict Bridgerton's Cinderella-like love story with Sophie Baek, a maid. Part 1 of Bridgerton Season 4 gave the viewers a glimpse at the duo's first meeting and ended with Benedict's unconventional offer to Sophie.Along with that, Part 1 also provided some details about Sophie's background to introduce another important character: Araminta Gun, Sophie's stepmother, played by Harry Potter star Katie Leung. While Leung's character might be introduced as the antagonist of this season, it's far from a one-dimensional villain in the series. In the Deadline interview, Leung describes the flashback scene where the actress creates contrasts between Araminta before meeting Sophie and after. She stated:"I just had so much fun with it. The flashback scene came a bit later on in the shoot, and so having really experienced what Araminta was going through in present day, it was really imperative and important for me to make sure that we saw that contrast just before she sees Sophie for the first time, or knows who Sophie is in a moment of betrayal."More on this in our story.Bridgerton Season 4: Katie Leung describes the flashback scene from Part 1 View this post on Instagram Instagram PostIn Bridgerton Season 4, Yerin Ha's character, Sophie, is seen working as a maid in the Penwood household. However, it is also revealed that she is Lord Penwood's illegitimate child, which Araminta was not aware of before marrying him.In a flashback scene in Episode 2 of Season 4 Part 1, Leung is shown arriving at Penwood estate after marrying Lord Penwood. As Leung describes, her character in the flashback scene is not as cold as she is in the present until she meets Sophie, who is excited to meet her new mother. Araminta loved her husband, but Sophie's existence was the biggest betrayal for her, which changed her as a person. In the Deadline interview, the Harry Potter star stated that she wanted to depict how her character changed in a split second after she saw Sophie, as the young child became the living example of her husband's betrayal, whom she loved wholeheartedly. To add to her previous comment, she further added:"And that once upon a time, she was hopeful and full of joy and in love with this man who she had in her head that she was going to spend the rest of her life with, and it was going to be great. And then in that split second, you can see just her world come crashing down. So again, just really lucky to have been able to play that and for for us to see that moment."Katie Leung's Araminta is one of the important characters in Bridgerton Season 4, who will affect Sophie and Benedict's story. In Part 1, after she learns that Sophie is the one Benedict was looking for after the ball, she kicks her out of the mansion. This results in bringing Sophie and Benedict closer as she ends up working for his mother, and he gets the chance to ask the shocking question of making her his mistress.More about their story will be explored in Bridgerton Season 4 Part 2, which premieres February 26, 2026.Also Read: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms showrunner discusses exploring Egg and Dunk’s entire lives in the HBO series- here’s all about it
