HBO’s Harry Potter Season 2 just cast Dobby and Tom Riddle but Ginny has a new face

Harry Potter Season 2 has already been greenlit, and it will adapt the second novel of the book series: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The upcoming season will introduce us to several new characters like Gilderoy Lockhart, Ginny Weasley, Tom Riddle, and Dobby.

While Kit Harington was already announced to be playing Lockhart in Season 2, new cast members have been cast in the roles of Tom Riddle and Dobby. Ginny Weasley on the other hand, has been recast.

New cast joining Harry Potter Season 2 includes Lenny Rush among others

Chamber of Secrets is the book in which we meet Ginny properly, and it is also the one in which she is a vital part of the plot. While Voldemort remains without a body, his horcrux, which is the memory of his 16-year-old self, Tom Riddle, also drives the novel's story. We also meet Dobby for the first time in this novel, a house-elf who becomes a close friend of Harry in the coming years.

The Harry Potter series is all set for its December 2026 premiere and will begin filming for Season 2 this fall. While Gracie Cochrane was initially cast as Ginny Weasley, she had to leave the project for unknown personal reasons; now as Deadline reports, Bonnie Hill has been cast as Ginny Weasley. Hill is also known for her role in Girl Troop versus Aliens.

Billy Barratt, who is known for his Emmy-winning performance in Responsible Child, has been cast as Tom Riddle. Barratt is also known for his roles in Bring Her Back, Gone, and Invasion. Lenny Rush, who is known for his roles in Am I Being Unreasonable?, A Woman of Substance, and Dodger, has been cast as Dobby.

In the Harry Potter films, Dobby was created using CGI and was voiced by Toby Jones. It is not yet known if HBO is planning for Rush to voice a CGI Dobby or actually play the character by creating the Dobby look with the help of prosthetics. The three new cast members join Kit Harington for Season 2. While Nicholas Hoult was initially cast as Gilderoy Lockhart, he left the role for scheduling issues, after which Harington took over the role.

Since Season 2 will adapt Chamber of Secrets, we will see Ginny come across Tom Riddle as she begins writing in his diary that also holds the memory of Riddle. Ginny's discovery and use of the diary is what will create the main conflict of the novel, which the trio will have to resolve.

Harry Potter is directed by Mark Mylod, Jessica Hobbs, Lucy Forbes, and Benjamin Caron. The showrunners of the series are Francesca Gardiner and Jon Brown. J. K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, Francesca Gardiner, and Mark Mylod are the executive producers of the show. The production companies behind the series are Brontë Film and Television, Heyday Television, Warner Bros. Television, HBO Entertainment, and David Heyman.

Harry Potter premieres on HBO on December 25, 2026. Season 2 is scheduled to begin filming in the fall of 2026.
