The HBO Harry Potter series is less than two months away from premiering on HBO Max, and new casting details of the show have just been revealed. While the main cast was revealed much earlier, HBO is gradually revealing details about other cast members who will be bringing the wizarding world to life.

As HBO revealed in an Instagram post, David Threlfall, Leo Bill, Andrew Brooke, Daniel Fearn, and Laura Smyth have been cast for Season 1 of the show.

New cast details of the Harry Potter series

On the first day of a session at Hogwarts, the first years get sorted into their houses by the Sorting Hat. The Sorting Hat thus largely determines what kind of a witch or wizard a student will eventually become. David Threlfall, who is known for his roles in Shameless, Someone Who'll Watch Over Me, and 1980, among others, has been cast as the voice of the Sorting Hat.

Harry Potter's story isn't just limited to witches and wizards but also the ghosts that lurk in the corridors of Hogwarts. Leo Bill, who is known for his roles in The Living and the Dead, Rare Beasts, and Alice in Wonderland, among others, has been cast as the Gryffindor House ghost, Nearly Headless Nick.

Andrew Brooke, whom you might know from PhoneShop and The Agency, among other projects, will play the Slytherin House ghost, The Bloody Baron. Hufflepuff's House ghost, The Fat Friar, will be played by Daniel Fearn. Fearn is known for his roles in Things You Should Have Done, The Christophers, and Slow Horses, among other projects.

Laura Smyth, whom you might remember from Baby Reindeer, has been cast as The Fat Lady. The Fat Lady is the lady in the portrait that guards the door to Gryffindor House.

Other recent cast additions to the series include Jasper Talbot as James Potter, Hannah Chinn as Lily Potter, and Harry Gilby as Charlie Weasley. Season 1 of the show is titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, which will adapt the novel of the same name by J.K. Rowling.

The HBO Harry Potter series is going to premiere on HBO Max on December 25, 2026. The show has already been renewed for Season 2.
