HBO's Lanterns continues to be in public discussion, even if it doesn't have a release date. Nonetheless, fans continue to be hyped for the series and are on the lookout for any updates. One of the impressive aspects of the series is its impressive cast, consisting of Aaron Pierre, Kyle Chandler, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen. The supporting cast of the HBO series also includes J. Alphonse Nicholson, who is playing the younger version of John Stewart Sr., while Sherman Augustus plays the older version. Nicholson was interviewed by Collider's Perri Nemiroff this week for the former's upcoming movie, If I Go Will They Miss You. Nicholson is sharing the screen with fellow DCU actress Danielle Brooks in that movie. The conversation between Perri Nemiroff, Nicholson, and Brooks shifted towards the HBO DCU series. Considering Danielle Brooks has been a part of the DC franchise since 2021, Nemiroff asked the former if she had a role in procuring her If I Go Will They Miss You co-actor's DCU role. The Peacemaker actress responded:“No. Heck no. Brother’s so talented. He didn’t need me on that one. But we did talk about it because he already knew that he was going to be doing it. Even his facial hair, he was struggling with that because he had to have it a certain way for his character in that, but nah, that was him! That was him.”J. Alphonse Nicholson addresses his experience on the Lanterns set: View this post on Instagram Instagram PostAfter Brooks, Nemiroff proceeded to ask Nicholson about his experience on the set of the HBO series and addressed how the set was different from smaller and independent projects. Nicholson's exact words to Perri Nemiroff were:“Oh man, that's such a great question. You’re a great interview. You know what? You live in the moment, right? Thankfully, it all worked out that being clean-shaven worked on both projects, you know what I'm saying? I didn't have to do too much hair and makeup. We had a conversation about what it's like working with James Gunn, and the levels and the complexity. So being on an HBO set, being on an independent set, but also being able to do the same level of work, different budgets, but same level of work, was really amazing for me. So, not only can I not wait for people to see Lanterns, but I'm really excited for audiences to see If I Go Will They Miss Me. And yeah, DC? Come on. That's really dope.”What do we know about the HBO series? View this post on Instagram Instagram PostTrue Detective was described as a major influence for this gritty HBO series. Nathan Fillion even teased the adult nature of the HBO series in a ScreenRant interview last July, when the actor revealed that he dropped the most cusswords on the set of the HBO series:"I'll tell you — it's the same character, but in different circumstances. In his [Guy Gardner] circumstances in Peacemaker, it's very lighthearted and fun; and his circumstances in Lanterns, the stakes are a lot higher. It doesn't change the character, but he's certainly dealing with that situation that he's in. And I'll say this — I dropped more F-bombs on my first day on Lanterns than I had in my entire career put together."When Ash Crossan asked Fillion if the cuss words were a part of the script or the actors used them on set, the actor revealed that they were a part of the script. Based on the comments above, it is clear that the HBO show might live up to the legacy of True Detective.Lanterns will air on HBO and stream on HBO Max this summer.
