According to Netflix, a young social worker joins forces with a rookie Homeland Security agent and the confused newcomers to prevent a catastrophe that could wipe out humanity. As they search for answers, they uncover shocking truths and realize that each of them is connected to the very mystery that they are trying to solve.

Deadline revealed that the spinoff of Manifest got the green signal on August 28, 2026. The new show was greenlit after Netflix took a decision to revive the original show for a fourth and final season in 2021 following its cancellation. Manifest first premiered on NBC on September 24, 2018, but the network ended the show after three seasons.

The spinoff series has been developed in the sci-fi genre. The summary of the plot details reads:

"When a mysterious plane crashes in Denver, the passengers emerge with no memory of who they are, where they came from, or why they’re here. A young social worker and a novice Homeland Security agent team up with the new arrivals in an attempt to stop a humanity-ending catastrophe, discovering along the way that they are all part of the very puzzle they’re trying to solve."

Jeff Rake shared that he did not have a job at the time and was searching for an idea. Therefore, he started thinking about the worst thing that could happen to a family while on a vacation.

A decade later, the idea evolved into a supernatural drama that was centered on families whose lives were turned upside down after a plane encounters severe turbulence and lands five and a half years later, even though no time had passed for the passengers on board.

On August 28, 2026, Netflix confirmed that the Manifest universe would continue to grow with its spinoff series. The platform declared that the new show would introduce a fresh group of characters and explore stories that had not been seen before. Rake said,

"It’s been five long years since we showed up on Netflix, and there’s probably half a generation who has never heard of Manifest. We’ve tried to thread the needle in a way that’s rewarding for the OG Manifest fans but also equally rewarding for people who are brand new to the show."

Netflix mentioned that the upcoming show would also bring back key members of the original show's creative team, with Jeff returning alongside former co-executive producer Margaret Easley and Laura Putney, who would work as co-creators and co-showrunners of the spinoff.

The spinoff had been scheduled to film in Vancouver, British Columbia, from January 19, 2027, through June 9, 2027. This would mark a major shift for the franchise because the original series was largely filmed in New York.

While the spinoff moves its story to Denver, the production itself will take place in Vancouver, which is one of Netflix's busiest filming hubs. The change in location was not unexpected, especially after the creators launched a behind-the-scenes social media project that hinted at the production plans.

Each episode will run for about 60 minutes, although the platform has not yet confirmed the total number of episodes. For comparison, the original show ended with an expanded 20-episode final season that was divided into two parts. However, the new series is more likely to follow Netflix's standard first-season format, which typically consists of eight to ten episodes.

Manifest ended with a final season 4. According to the plot, Flight 828's passengers discovered that their death dates were a warning of a global apocalypse, and soon after, they eventually arrived at Storm King Mountain. At the mountain, Saanvi had previously left a piece of Noah’s Ark, and therefore, the passengers went there and tried to find a way to stop the disaster. There, Cal combined his sapphire powers with the Ark and sacrificed himself in an attempt to save the world.

After Cal’s sacrifice, Flight 828 reappeared, and the passengers boarded the plane once again. During this trip, each passenger faced a final judgment and had to show remorse for their past actions. Eleven passengers failed the test and turned to ash. When the plane finally landed, the surviving passengers found themselves back in 2013, the year Flight 828 had originally been scheduled to arrive.

Several characters who had died during the series were alive again in the restored timeline. Ben reunited with Grace, although she had no memory of the lost years, while Cal also returned without remembering those events. Meanwhile, Michaela ended her engagement with Jared after realizing that he was meant to be with Drea. Then, she met Zeke for the first time in this timeline, even though they had previously been married before he died in the original timeline.
