High Potential Season 2 Episode 11 starts with Karadec being late to a case, which is absolutely unlike the character of the detective, who is always very punctual. As it happens, he ran into Lucia, and the encounter left him visibly shaken. Lucia was on assignment in Santa Fe, but is back in Los Angeles. Notably, she is single again.

Their separation occurred five years ago, and the explanation for this was simple: Karadec was technically married to his job. Lucia was not able to deal with his passionate work ethos, and she always found herself on the back burner. It is the archetypal tale of a relationship that failed due to one partner being unable to balance between their work and personal life.

In Season 1, Karadec himself confessed that Lucia deserved someone who was not more in love with something else, that something else being his detective activity.

In the course of High Potential Season 2 Episode 11, Morgan realized that something was wrong with her partner, and she could not ignore it. Once she discovered that Karadec had gotten back together with an old flame, she was suddenly interested in twisting his arm to take a second chance. The way Morgan was excited about Karadec being in love was almost violent, and this leaves one wondering whether she is truly happy or if she is handling some mixed emotions of her own.

The chemistry between Karadec and Lucia was clear as soon as they met. Although their past was painful, there is clearly something left. But Karadec was not eager to plunge again. He was afraid that he had not changed much since they separated, that he would revert to the old ways of putting work before all other things. This is a valid fear based on his track record.

However, this is where the interesting part comes in. Lieutenant Soto intervened with a point of view that could actually alter the game. She indicated that the work habits of Karadec have changed since Morgan was brought on board. He is working fewer insane hours, so the work-life balance problem that wrecked his engagement may no longer be such a significant problem. It is an ironic twist that Morgan being in the professional life of Karadec may have even made him a better romantic partner to someone else.

Towards the end of High Potential Season 2 Episode 11, Karadec decided to take the leap. Lucia picked him up at the precinct to go on a date, and Morgan sent them off, wishing them a good time. However, the last shot of the Episode tells another story. The way Morgan looks when they are walking away is referred to as wistful, which could easily indicate that she is feeling more than just simple happiness on behalf of her partner.

The most interesting aspect of this plot is that it is similar to the experiences of Morgan. In Season 1, her love affair with Tom failed as he could not comprehend her passion for cases. Similar to how Lucia was unable to cope with the workaholic nature of Karadec, Tom was unable to cope with how Morgan was unable to switch off her brain.

That is why Morgan and Karadec are such a perfect match: they are both committed to their work, whether it is good or bad. This makes it an interesting scenario that Morgan may be the one who is best aware of what Lucia experienced with Karadec, but she is also the one who will be most impacted by his work-oriented nature. It is complex, obscure, and precisely the sort of emotional stuff that is the source of a great television show.

The big question that is looming over High Potential Season 2 Episode 11 is whether Karadec has changed enough to make things this time around work with Lucia. Has working with Morgan something that has taught him to uphold better boundaries? Or is he likely to lapse into old ways as soon as the excitement of the first meeting is over? And still more to the point, what becomes of his relation with Morgan when his attention is shifted to his personal life?
