John Oliver returned with a fresh episode of Last Week Tonight this Sunday. Oliver mocked Trump ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle over the credit card bill controversy.
According to the text messages obtained by The Wall Street Journal, Eric Deters, a Trump donor who ran for governor of Kentucky, alleged that Guilfoyle begged him to pay her a $100,000 American Express bill just days before she was sent to Greece as U.S. ambassador. In the published messages, she said, 'Honey please' with prayer hands emoji and a PDF with bill payment instructions. Oliver mocked Guilfoyle as he remarked (via Variety):
"OK, first, that text is something: ‘Honey please, send a hundred thousand dollars to my credit card and sweetie, don’t go on the news later to talk about it, and pumpkin, please send a hundred thousand dollars to Sephora, I need a new vat of charcoal eye-liner. My style icon is a raccoon. Prayer hands."
According to The American Presidency Project, President Donald Trump announced Kimberly Guilfoyle's nomination as U.S. ambassador to Greece in December 2024. In the report, Trump claimed that Kimberly is perfectly suited to foster strong bilateral relations with Greece. However, Oliver argued that the nomination always seemed odd, especially after Guilfoyle's high-decibel and meme-worthy speech from the 2020 Republican National Convention.
John Oliver mocked Trump ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle on the Last Week Tonight Show

John Oliver didn't hold back while mocking Kimberly Guilfoyle, the current U.S. ambassador to Greece. According to the text messages released by The Wall Street Journal, Guilfoyle reached out to Eric Deters, a Trump donor, with an urgent request to pay her American Express Credit card bill worth $100,000. Apparently, she communicated on Signal that if Deters wired the amount, it would not leave a paper trail. However, Deters did not make the payment, telling her that it might ruin his marriage.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Deters and Guilfoyle were in contact for months. Deters apparently sought her help to gain the attention of Trump's administration for some personal tax and legal issues.
According to Variety, not only did John Oliver mock Guilfoyle's begging for credit card bill payment from Deters just before she became the U.S ambassador to Greece, but he also cracked jokes on her 2020 RNC speech. He further joked about the controversy, saying that Deters exposed her because she couldn't fulfill the promises she made in exchange for $100,000, such as getting him an interview with Fox News, and the other being:
"Giving Kid Rock the song that I wrote."
Oliver went one step further and mocked Kid Rock's song Cool, Daddy Cool from the 2001 animated film Osmosis Jones.
At the end of a segment, John Oliver also addressed a merger of Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros., Last Week Tonight's parent company. He said that he is thrilled to be a part of the Skydance family. He added (via Deadline):
"Hope you’re happy with what you bought, guys! We’re never gonna change!”
