House of the Dragon may finally be done with its most hated character

House of the Dragon has brought forth multiple twists and turns throughout the series. Through the seasons, the viewers have witnessed the development of many characters and how they navigated through difficulties. Among the characters, Ser Criston Cole has received immense hatred from the viewers; however, for all the right reasons.

Though in the beginning of the series, Ser Criston’s admiration and support towards young Rhaenyra indicated him as a positive character, as the episodes progress, his nature completely shifted. After years of tormenting the people and Rhaenyra, it may finally be time for Ser Criston Cole to face the consequences of his actions in the upcoming episodes of House of the Dragon Season 3.

It is not rare for a TV show to foreshadow the death of a character, and House of the Dragon Season 3 also does the same with Ser Criston Cole’s fate. Through the arrival of Roderick Dustin and Oscar Tully, the stage is set for Ser Criston Cole’s imminent death. At the end of House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 5, Roderick and Oscar discuss Cole’s actions and how they are going to take him down, which is a foreshadowing of the Butcher’s Ball, where Criston Cole may die in the series.

It cannot be denied that throughout the series, Ser Criston Cole has depicted heinous actions, which have led to the viewers' hatred. Though there are several characters with questionable actions, Criston Cole is a significant one whose hypocrisy and manipulation have led to the devastation of many characters. After getting close to Rhaenyra at the beginning of the series, he urged her to run away with him.

However, Rhaenyra rejected his proposition, as she did not want to escape from the duties that were bestowed upon her. Soon after her rejection, Criston Cole’s actions towards Rhaenyra took a twisted turn. He depicted his bitter nature by often sabotaging Rhaenyra’s position. The House of the Dragon also depicted Criston Cole’s sharp, manipulative tactics with which he created differences between Rhaenyra and Alicent.

He poisoned Alicent’s mind towards Rhaenyra, eventually breaking their bond. The manner in which he beat a Joffrey Lonmouth during Rhaenyra’s marriage further depicted his villainous nature. Besides these actions, his distinct hypocrisy depicted in House of the Dragons adds another reason for the viewers to hate him. Despite making the same mistakes himself, he is always eager to question others for their actions.

Through the episodes of the series, Ser Criston Cole’s character has added immense complexity to the storyline. It cannot be denied that Fabien Frankel has done a remarkable job in depicting the layered character of Ser Criston Cole in the series. Besides this series, some of Fabien Frankel’s other projects that can also be added to your watchlist are Task, where he takes on the role of Anthony Grasso, The Serpent, NYPD Blue, An Uncandid Portrait, etc.

If the upcoming episode of the series depicts Criston Cole’s death, it will be quite intriguing for the viewers, considering the harm his character has brought upon many of the viewers' favorite characters. The next episode of the series is set to release on July 26.

Viewers can tune in to HBO Max to watch the upcoming episode along with the other episodes of the series. This season will have eight episodes, with the finale set to drop on August 10. The series will also have a fourth season, which, according to Ryan Condal, will be “the biggest season,” as he spoke in an interview with Deadline.
