House of the Dragon Season 3 will premiere on HBO in June 2026, and it will bring about a change most viewers won't see coming. The show, which is set approximately two hundred years prior to the events of Game of Thrones, and follows the Targaryens who had the Iron Throne at the time, is going to head into the Dance of the Dragons in Season 3. Until now, it has been easy to love Rhaenyra, hate Aemond, and be on the fence about Alicent (although her actions have bought her only hate and some pity). But according to what a cast member recently said about House of the Dragon Season 3, we can expect the upcoming season to majorly change the way fans see some of their favorite characters. How characters might change in House of the Dragon Season 3House of the Dragon Season 3 will follow the Blacks and the Greens as they head into the Dance of Dragons, each side trying to establish their claim to the Iron Throne. At this juncture of the story, blood has been shed on both sides, and it is only going to get bloodier. But if viewers thought it would be easy to root for the favorite characters going forward, they might get proved wrong. View this post on Instagram Instagram PostAccording to Winter is Coming, at the Budapest Comic Con, Fabien Frankel, who plays Ser Criston Cole on the show, spoke about House of the Dragon Season 3, saying,"I'll be very interested to see, like as the next two seasons of Dragon unfold...how people's opinions on these characters shift. Because I think they innately will, you know, as season 3 and 4 come out,"He added,"So I'm excited for people to, you know, recalibrate in a sense."While we cannot guess what will happen in Season 4 yet, we can guess what changes in characters might happen in Season 3. Since Frankel is the one who mentioned that the characters will go through unexpected changes, we might just see a change in Frankel's character, Ser Criston Cole. Criston started out being an honorable knight who was loyal to Rhaenyra, and even broke his Kingsguard vows of celibacy to be her lover for a brief time. But when she rejected his proposal to elope despite all that, Criston felt humiliated and grew bitter, shifting his loyalties to Alicent instead. In Season 2, the Battle at Rook's Rest changed Criston a lot, and in Season 3, he will be leading an army against Daemon Targaryen. Since he will be back to leading and actually being a knight who has to fight and inspire his fellow men, we might see him change a little for the better. He might not completely shift sides, but he might just become a better person and a better knight. But as the war gets more bloody and dirty in House of the Dragon Season 3, we might see her get desperate and make impulsive decisions that aren't exactly morally correct. While that doesn't decide if she is a good queen or not, it will say a lot about how war and a fight for her identity are changing her and, in turn, changing the way fans see her.Another character who has had an interesting arc in the show is Aegon II. Thanks to his mother, Alicent, Aegon always believed that he deserved the Iron Throne even though his older sister was the rightful heir. He fought for the throne for quite some time, but after sustaining his wounds in the Battle at Rook's Rest, he escaped King's Landing with Larys Strong. While the books did not explore too much about the transformation Aegon went through when he was in hiding, we can expect the show to give us a proper look at how he observed the kingdom through the eyes of a commoner in House of the Dragon Season 3. That experience might also make him a stronger leader when he returns, as opposed to the puppet-like leader his family made him.Similarly, any and every major character of the show can and will probably go through changes in House of the Dragon Season 3 that will significantly affect the way fans view the characters. This will, in turn, also help one look at the Dance of the Dragons as the political blunder it was, rather than just a war for the throne.
