Euphoria wrapped up with Season 3 on May 31, 2026, with a thrilling finale. Lexi Howard, played by Maude Apatow, serves as moral compass for most of the series, however by the end of the series, it changes drastically.

Lexi declines to work as a storyteller for Maddy and Cassie. Rue's death affects her, and she feels guilty about how she treated her. She eventually comes to the conclusion that things aren't always her fault after reading the bible that Rue left in her apartment. She is still unaware of what happened to Nate; she believes he disappeared mysteriously. Cassie decides not to reveal the truth to her sister, Lexi.

For most of Euphoria, Lexi stood out as a character who seemed to have her life sorted. While Rue, her childhood best friend, battled with addiction, her sister Cassie chased validation, and Nate caused chaos, Lexi remained mostly out of trouble.

She wasn't the loudest character in the room, but she watched everything unfold right in front of her eyes. She cared for Rue and was among the few people who remained aloof from unnecessary drama and trouble. Because of this, many Euphoria fans saw her as a moral compass, but as the show proceeded, circumstances proved Lexi wasn't as perfect as she was portrayed initially. The viewers got a glimpse of how she was frustrated with her life and often felt ignored as compared to her sister, Cassie. Here's more about it.

Why Maude Apatow's Lexi Howard stopped being Euphoria's moral compass?

Lexi's behaviour towards her sister Cassie has been problematic. For instance, when Rue was in trouble during the sobriety test, she helped her. In fact, she never stood up for herself when Rue was a bad friend to her. It seemed like Lexi was constantly presenting herself as someone who's morally above everyone. However, in reality, she was just like any other character of Euphoria, flawed and morally complex.

For instance, in Euphoria Season 2 Episode 7, when Lexi helms a play at school called Our Life, she deliberately attempts to belittle Cassie. It was unnecessary to include Cassie's carousel scene. This eventually caused a rift between the sisters, and a fight broke out on stage. Apart from that, she was awful to the staff during the play. In Season 3, instead of helping Rue figure out her life, she told Maddy about Rue working with the DEA. If she really thought that Rue had relapsed, she should have helped her and not simply gossip about her.

Lexi has also been a hypocrite; she bashes others for drug use and falls for a drug lord (Fezco) who was sold drugs to her childhood best friend.

Lexi might act as someone who is morally superior, but in reality, her life gets as messy as others'. For instance, during Jules' wedding when Jules asks her whether she's a virgin, she brags about it, saying,

"It's better than herpes."

The series spent years building Lexi as a symbol of reason and morality, but by the end of the series, she was revealed to be someone as flawed as everyone else.
