Going by the statement of Lisa McGee, we understand that writing a finale of a series comes with its own set of challenges. After all, the loose threads have to be tied together to wrap it up as a finished piece. And the most difficult part is to make sense of loose ties and everything coming together.

However, the creator has expressed her feelings of enjoyment with such kind of creative challenge in regard to How to Get to Heaven from Belfast. But her experience of writing the finale of Derry Girls was completely opposed to this one. Unlike the delightful process of Heaven, the UK teen sitcom was rather more nerve-racking. This is what Lisa McGee further stated:

"You can get swept up in the idea: oh maybe I should have something to say. But I don’t have anything to say. I mean, I said what I have to say in the show. It was stressful, writing that last episode. But I’m very proud of it."

In this statement, McGee addresses the heavy expectation that came with Derry Girls regarding its finale. When a show is successful, its fans will inevitably yearn for it to end in a way that is impactful, high-powered, and satisfying. However, in the process, the creator realized that her vision and thoughts were already conveyed throughout the entire series.

Therefore, there was absolutely no need for the show to conclude in a heavily emotionally charged, out-of-the-ordinary manner. Because the sitcom itself has perfectly conveyed the emotions required throughout. Even when she ruled out the possibility of a forceful, profound ending, the stress kept lingering. But despite all the anxiety, Lisa McGee mentions that she is content, in fact, is proud of how the finale turned out.

But with How to Get to Heaven from Belfast, it was a completely different circumstance. Unlike the historical and cultural weight that Derry Girls possessed, the process of writing the finale of Heaven was more of a technical challenge.

The plot lines of the series had to be added up and concluded in a way that would make sense to the story. But it is less stressful as it did not carry the colossal amount of responsibility that the Northern Irish comedy.

With How to Get to Heaven from Belfast, Lisa McGee was more focused on its structure. It was a creatively demanding task, but it was also more tranquil and enjoyable for the creator.
