Hulu renews Good American Family for Season 2, but the story is taking a shocking new turn

Good American Family is returning for a second season on Hulu with Ellen Pompeo's involvement. However, this time, the series will follow a new court case rather than continue the first season's storyline. While this might be surprising for some viewers, it should be noted that Hulu and the production team are marketing the show as an anthology series.

Deadline was the first to publish a report stating that Hulu has renewed Good American Family for a second season. The same report also revealed that Pompeo will also be one of season 2's executive producers. But it did not reveal whether the Grey's Anatomy actress will also join the cast of the series or not. But Deadline did confirm that the second season will revolve around a shocking case from 1993.

What will Good American Family Season 2 be about?

The second season will be set in the 1990s, unlike the first season, which was set in the 2010s. This time, the anthology series will follow the Lorena Bobbitt case that shocked the people of the US in 1993. Bobbitt's case involved s*xual violence from her husband, because of which she took a drastic step. The official logline for the second season reveals that:

"It is inspired by the ripped-from-the-headlines story of Lorena and John Bobbitt, a Virginia couple who incited a media circus that treated trauma as entertainment, launched a thousand dirty jokes, and ignited a gender war."

What is the Lorena Bobbitt case about?

For those who don't know, Lorena severed off her husband, John Bobbitt's private part with a Ginsu knife while he was asleep on June 23, 1993. Lorena went on to reveal that John frequently assaulted her s**ually, and she took this drastic step to defend herself.

After cutting off the part, Lorena discarded it on the side of Maplewood Drive in Virginia. However, she did call the police to admit what she did, and the body part could be found. The authorities found John's severed part after an extensive search. The body part was cleaned with an antiseptic and ultimately reattached in a successful surgery. John was charged with s**ual violence the same year, but he was acquitted by the court.

But despite his acquittal, Lorena Bobbitt continues to receive widespread support from people to this day. Thus, Good American Family Season 2 is one of the many adaptations of her case.

What do we know about season 2?

As of now, only two things are known about the second season: Ellen Pompeo being one of the EPs of season 2 and that it will revolve around the Lorena Bobbitt case. Apart from that, we don't know anything about the next season, as no actor has joined the cast yet.

Moreover, we don't have a release date for the next season because cameras haven't started rolling on it yet. We can expect more announcements about the second season soon, though.
