Hwang Min-hyun set to return for Study Group Season 2- here’s what we know so far

TVING's Study Group, a live-action adaptation of a popular webtoon, first premiered in 2025. The series followed the story of Yoon Ga-min, played by Hwang Min-hyun, who wants to create a study group in his Yusung Technical High School, os that he can go to university. However, Ga-min faces numerous obstacles that force him to get into fights even after trying to avoid doing so.

After a successful season, it was confirmed that the K-drama will return with a Season 2, but whether Min-hyun will return or not was a question on every viewer's mind. Therefore, fans of the series can celebrate as Min-hyun is confirmed to reprise his character, Ga-min, in Study Group Season 2.

Study Group Season 2: Hwang Min-hyun is set to return as Ga-min in the TVING K-drama

The Alchemy of Souls star, Hwan Min-hyun, was loved by many for his role in Season 1 of the TVING K-drama. He played a character named Ga-min who wanted to keep his head down in his school to achieve his target of going to University, and with that as his goal, he tries to create a study group.

However, as much as he tried to stay away from physical violence, he still got involved in various fights, mostly to protect his friends from his study group, who were being bullied.

Season 1 of the K-drama came out in January 2025, when Min-hyun was serving his mandatory military service. Therefore, it was not confirmed whether he would be in Season 2. However, Min-hyun, who was discharged from the military in December 2025, is now confirmed to return as Ga-min in Season 2 of Study Group.

According to Soompi, the production team of the action K-drama stated:

"Hwang Min-hyun already has a perfect understanding of the character. You can look forward to new sides of Ga-min that we didn’t get to see in Season 1 - such as the reason he wanted so badly to be good at studying and the dilemmas he faces - as well as action sequences that are even more spectacular."

While not much about Season 2 has been shared, it is reported that Ga-min and his friends might be involved in a bigger fight than in Season 1 and help out more students, outside of their school, who have been bullied.

What happened in Study Group Season 1?

In Season 1 of the fan-favorite K-drama, Ga-min and his friends try to protect their teacher Hye-gyeong before the meeting as she is called by the vice principal to the school, at night. While she gets a confession of the ongoing corruption in the school, she is unable to leave the premises after Han-wool, Min-hwan, and their people stop her.

Ga-min and his friends just arrived in town to save their teacher, which also finally gives Ga-min a chance to fight Han-wool. At the end of Season 1, Han-wool is suspended from the school after Hye-gyeong's evidence against him, and also gets him arrested by Detective Na as a suspect in Jeong-hwa’s death.
