The president of SAG-AFTRA, Fran Drescher, made her mark on sitcoms. The most prominent one being The Nanny, which ran for six seasons between 1993 and 1999. She was recently interviewed by Ted Danson on his Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast. In that interview, she discussed her career in detail.
There, Danson asked the iconic sitcom actress whether she would consider joining the cast of another sitcom after Indebted. To this, Fran Drescher responded affirmatively:
“I don’t see myself doing another sitcom.”
The Nanny's Fran Drescher explains why she doesn't see herself doing another sitcom:
The actress also explained why she is not interested in joining another sitcom anytime soon. It should be noted that the last sitcom Drescher appeared in was NBC's Indebted. For those who don't know, the official synopsis for the series reads:
"Young parents Dave and Rebecca are ready to reclaim their lives after years of diapers and sleepless nights. However, things take an unexpected turn when Dave's parents show up unannounced and broke, leaving Dave with no choice but to open the door to the two people who gave him everything. But these boomerang parents aren't great with boundaries, and the question of who's parenting whom quickly becomes blurred."
The series was cancelled after one season amidst the global pandemic six years ago. Furthermore, Fran Drescher revealed that she did not enjoy the experience of working on that cancelled series:
“The last one that I did wasn’t my show. I played the mom in it, and I really didn’t… I loved the people, but I didn’t enjoy the experience that much because we were shooting it over the winter months. It was pretty dark when I entered the stage, and it was dark when I left it. I just lost the whole day.”
Drescher also revealed that she was questioning herself while working on Indebted:
“Is this how I would have wanted to spend the day if it turned out to be the last day of my life? And it wasn’t.”
However, Dresher did not entirely close the door on returning to the TV screens in the same interview. Her last appearance in a TV show was four years ago in an episode of Mr. Mayor. Apart from that, she also appeared in two TV movies. Addressing the possibility of returning to TV, the actress said:
“Maybe when I’m writing and executive-producing, directing, all of those hats that I wore in my own shows, maybe it would be more stimulating and, you know, gratifying. But in this situation, I think just playing the mom in it, it just wasn’t enough for me. And I felt like I could’ve been doing other things during my day.”
Thus, Drescher would like to return to TV if the situation were favorable. It is not surprising, considering she is known for her role in The Nanny. For those who don't know, the popular sitcom follows Fran Fine, who becomes a nanny to a wealthy widower.
"Fran Drescher stars as Fran Fine, a street-smart young woman with a face out of Vogue and a voice out of Queens who stumbles onto the opportunity to become a nanny to the children of a wealthy widower, Maxwell Sheffield. Soon Fran, with her offbeat nurturing and no-nonsense honesty, touches Maxwell as well as the kids."
Fran Drescher's popular sitcom is available on several streaming platforms like HBO Max and Peacock.
