“I love that people are fans of the character”: The Boys star Jensen Ackles opens up about the fans of Soldier Boy

The Boys Season 5, which is going to be the last season of the show, will premiere on Prime Video on April 8, 2026. Soldier Boy was revealed to be alive at the end of Season 4, and the trailer for Season 5 has shown Homelander bringing Soldier Boy outside the CIA bunker. Thus, as The Boys comes to a close, Soldier Boy returns to the show's storyline as a character whose actions might affect the show significantly.

Jensen Ackles is reprising his role as Soldier Boy in Season 5 and is also playing the character in The Boys spin-off, Vought Rising. As we get closer to the Season 5 premiere, Jensen Ackles opened up about the fans of Soldier Boy.

Soldier Boy is one of the first successful Supes Vought ever made, and is the biological father of Homelander. While Soldier Boy is a victim of extreme experimentation and exploitation, he isn't exactly innocent and has his own violent tendencies that make him one of the most dangerous Supes of the franchise.

In The Boys Season 5, we will most likely see him back in action, and his actions might just lead us to the climax.

Despite not being a hero, Soldier Boy is still loved by fans. In a recent interview with /Film, Jensen Ackles, who plays Soldier Boy, opened up about the love his character has received despite being an antagonist. Ackles said:

"I love that people are fans of the character because I love playing him. He's really fun. I don't get the sense that they think he's the good guy. I get a sense that they're rooting for the bad guy [...] He's obviously the bad guy, but no, it's good to be received and not hated."

Soldier Boy is one of the few antagonists who are loved despite being the bad guy, and that will likely continue in The Boys Season 5. Besides, fans are also excited to see more of Soldier Boy in Vought Rising, which will show us how he became a Supe.

This is evidence of how much the character is loved, and will most likely continue with more seasons of Vought Rising (if renewed). Ackles also spoke about Soldier Boy's narrative in The Boys Season 5, and if it might change how fans see him, saying:

"I think they're probably still going to feel what they feel, layered on top of some other feelings, without giving too much away. I think there's some conversations and some actions that take place that definitely add to the complexity that is Soldier Boy and his relationships with the other characters [...] Probably similar fans that think Homelander's awesome. Okay, yes, Ant[ony] does a great job at making that character just absolutely pop, but it's a terrible character. And Ant and I were talking about this yesterday [...] he said it, and I've stolen it now, but he said: 'Hurt people hurt people.' And I think these two guys come from a generational trauma and it comes out in really toxic ways."

As Ackles said, we will probably get to see more layers to Soldier Boy and Homelander and understand what really makes them so terrible. That might happen through flashbacks, vulnerable conversations, or through something extremely violent, making us not know how to perceive them anymore.

The Boys Season 5 will premiere on Prime Video on April 8, 2026, with the first two episodes. The remaining six episodes will be released weekly on Wednesdays till May 20, 2026.
