I'm Not Afraid is Netflix's latest six-part Mexican mystery series, which follows Miguel, a 10-year-old boy who stumbles upon a witch's house in the forest, only to realize that the fantastical lie (created by the adults in his village) is a facade to hide their darkest secret.
The official synopsis for the series reads as follows:
''During the 1986 World Cup, Miguel discovers a boy chained in a well; to save him, he must navigate the fears and traps of the adult world.''
I'm Not Afraid follows Miguel as he develops a close friendship with Felipe, the boy trapped inside the pit in the Witch's house. As Miguel struggled to free his new friend, he discovered that he was the victim of a dark plot hatched by the village's adults, including his parents, Pino and Teresa.
Here is the complete ending explained.
I'm Not Afraid ending explained: Why did Miguel's parents kidnap Felipe?

The I'm Not Afraid finale came with a shocking revelation for Miguel: that his parents were behind Felipe's kidnapping. The series flashed back 5 years to reveal the village's darkest secret, which became the reason behind Felipe's kidnapping. The flashback revealed that Rodrigo was once the proud owner of a coffee plantation that had employed Pino and his friends. However, a devastating rust leaf plague wiped out Rodrigo's coffee harvest, snatching the community's only source of income. While Pino and his friends tried to find employment elsewhere, it was temporary and paid less. Left with no choice and desperate to make ends meet, Pino took up a job at Don Emilio's transportation company and hatched a plan to extort money by kidnapping his son, Felipe.
While Pino had the help of his wife, Rodrigo and Felix, the group was unaware that Emilio was, in reality, under huge debt and used gambling as a means to pay his employees. Left with no choice, Emilio involved the police, which naturally scared Pino and his friends. I'm Not Afraid also revealed that Felix was left in charge of caring for Felipe. However, he harboured deep hatred for the kid as he came from money and used to feed him worm-laden food and stale water in secret, which eventually deteriorated his health.
Did Miguel save Felipe?
Panicked by the police, Pino changed Felipe's location in the I'm Not Afraid finale. However, since Miguel was desperate to save his friend, he teamed up with his sister Maria and friends Chava, Cala and Tono, and set out to rescue Felipe. Maria remembered the family's Santa Rosa sugar mill and the children hoped that Pino and the group had kept Felipe in its basement. However, there was a huge obstacle in their way: the path to the sugar mill wound through a dark mist-covered forest, leaving Miguel gripped by fear.
However, proving on the title of I'm Not Afraid, Miguel overcame his fear for Felipe and charged towards the forest and into the mill. Luckily, the children found Felipe but he was in bad shape. The children decided that Miguel and Felipe would run ahead and get help while the rest of the group would wait for their parents and keep them distracted. Things worked according to plan and the duo escaped, unaware that Rodrigo and Pino were searching for them, ready to shoot Felipe.
While the kids were hatching a plan to save Felipe in I'm Not Afraid, Rodrigo had decided to kill the innocent boy. Pino and Rodrigo agreed that killing Felipe was the only way to escape prison and they charged towards the forest to find him.
How does I'm Not Afraid end?

In an attempt to clear all evidence of his wrongdoings, Rodrigo pointed a gun at Felipe in the I'm Not Afraid finale. However, Miguel proved the worth of his friendship and took the bullet meant for his friend, much to Pino and Felipe's shock. While Pino had hatched the kidnapping plan for the betterment of his family, it led to his son lying in the forest, with a gunshot wound in his chest. The series concluded on an ambiguous note as it did not reveal Miguel's fate. However, the hovering rescue helicopters and the arriving cops hint that help has finally reached the kids and Miguel will likely be saved. Additionally, since Miguel's narration continued even after he fell unconscious, it's safe to say that he survived the gunshot.
While the I'm Not Afraid finale did not reveal the true fate of the adults, the last shot followed a police car chasing their truck, suggesting that Pino and his group will face harrowing consequences of their action in prison. Elsewhere, since Felipe was alive and well, he will likely be reunited with his father.
