Industry Season 4 Episode 1 recap: Harper teams up with Eric and Whitney gains control of Tender

Industry Season 4 Episode 1, titled PayPal of Bukkake, aired on HBO on January 11. The platform's stylish financial thriller drama has finally returned with a new season and the premiere was nothing short of intense.

The Industry Season 4 premiere began with two new faces, Jim Dycker, a journalist and Haley Clay, the assistant to Whitney Halberstram, the CFO of a new payment processing company called Tender. After the walls of Pierpoint came crashing down in the Industry Season 3 finale, there is a new startup in town, Tender. The company is a payment processor of choice for Siren, a fictional equivalent of OnlyFans, which lets users access adult content. However, after the British government's new Online Safety Bill, which monitors users' activity online, Tender is facing issues in the financial market.

The premiere opens with Jim and Haley meeting in a club, which leads to a one-night stand. However, when Jim reveals that he is an investigative journalist looking into Haley's boss, Whitney, she is enraged and leaves.

Whitney gains control of Tender in Industry Season 4 Episode 1

Tender was founded by two best friends, Whitney Halberstram and Jay Jonah Atterbury, who serve as the CFO and CEO of their payment processing company. While the company is already rising in the financial market in Industry Season 4 Episode 1, its two founders are having a difference in opinion.

After the British government's new policy, which requires people to verify their age before browsing the Internet, Whitney wants Tender to adopt a clean image in the market and cut its ties with Siren. However, Jonah, who leads a hedonistic life of dr*gs, party and women, wants to continue working with Siren as their collaboration reaps them profits. However, since Whitney does not want Tender to have an anti-government stance, he ends the company's ties with Siren without consulting Jonah. Additionally, he lures his best friend into an impromptu board meeting and practically manipulates the members into firing Jonah for multiple disciplinary objections against him. While Joanh is allowed to hold onto his shares, he is fired as the CEO and Whitney is made the interim CEO in Industry Season 4 Episode 1.

Harper struggles at her new job in Industry Season 4 Episode 1

After Tender's chaotic office drama, it's time to check in with Harper in Industry Season 4 Episode 1, who now heads the shorting department at the trading firm under Mostyn Asset Management. While Harper made her game-changing move at the end of Industry Season 3, she is frustrated by the lack of action at her new job, which is why she entangles herself with the new online safety bill and begins obsessing over how companies like Siren will be affected by it.

While many of Harper's clients want to withdraw their Siren funds, she wants to hold onto this opportunity to impress her boss and move on to a higher position. When one of her biggest clients puts in a redemption request to withdraw their invested funds, she sends an email to all her clients, stating that she is gating their funds, meaning they will be unable to withdraw them in the future.

As expected, this situation blows up in her face in Industry Season 4 Episode 1, when one of the clients personally visits the office to have their funds withdrawn and ends up having a heart attack there. After receiving a good beating from her boss, Harper reaches out to Eric, who is pretending to enjoy his life back in the US. Harper asks Eric to return to London as she plans to hire him, suggesting that she will not back down from her mission.

Harper meets Whitney in Industry Season 4 Episode 1

While Harper tries to climb the social ladder in her new company in Industry Season 4 Episode 1, Yasmin adjusts to her life as Sir Henry Muck's wife. As Henry downs himself in alcohol and dr*gs, Yasmin throws lavish parties. The premiere also establishes the Muck family's connection with Whitney, who wants Yasmin to introduce him to a Labour party politician. However, Harper makes her way to Whitney's bedroom, thanks to her friendship with Yasmin.

The final moments of Industry Season 4 Episode 1 saw Harper in bed with Whitney, which is likely a strategy to use as leverage to take on Tender and Siren. Elsewhere, Eric agrees to work with Harper and arrives in the UK, setting the stage for the pair's future adventures.
