CJ had vowed never to take a firefighting job again but Bode asked for her help during a crisis at the firehouse. But CJ was convinced the shots were likely connected to her past and her involvement would only bring more trouble. CJ's suspicious behaviour caught Bode's attention in Fire Country Season 5 Episode 2, which set the stage for a major reveal.

CJ finally confided in Bode and shared details about her traumatic past. It turns out CJ's old Captain ran an illicit group with some of her colleagues. CJ learned about this illegal gig when they offered her a chance to join them. Naturally, CJ refused the offer, which made her a target. Fearing she would testify against him, CJ's Captain intentionally sent her into a stairwell on a call, knowing it had serious violations. As CJ recalled to Bode, she was trapped in a brutal fire, with nobody to turn to.

Fire Country Season 5 Episode 2 revealed that while CJ managed to survive and run from the scene, her Captain and colleagues are still after her. Since CJ was a threat, she fears her colleagues will come after her. While she had vowed never to become a firefighter again, she eventually accepted Bode's offer and they launched the volunteer fire department.

The identity of the shooter comes to light in Fire Country Season 5 Episode 2

One of the biggest mysteries in Fire Country Season 5 Episode 2 was the shooter's identity. While CJ blamed herself and Manny suspected his nephew Angel, Mickey and Hank from Sheriff Country discovered that the shots were aimed at Station 42 and came from the brothers who blamed Manny for the burning of their mother's home. The sinkhole and the overwhelming number of calls made the situation worse and the younger brother held Manny and his team responsible.

The younger brother not only fired shots at Station 42 but also caused the wildfire to create a distraction for the firefighters. The situation took a turn when the team discovered the older brother was not involved in his sibling's revenge plan. He eventually came to the rescue and talked to his younger brother.

Fire Country Season 5 Episode 2 set a new problem for Manny

Beyond the chaos, Fire Country Season 5 Episode 2 featured an emotional conversation between Manny and Camille, where he revealed details about his brother Ricardo. Before Ricardo turned to a life of murder and went to prison, he was Manny's older brother who taught him how to swim. This conversation set up the episode's exciting cliffhanger where Angel got a call from his father, hinting at Ricardo's arrival.

If the tease was not enough, EP Eric Guggenheim confirmed that Ricardo will appear in the latter half of Fire Country Season 5. In an interview with TV Insider, Guggenheim teased:

"We’ll meet Ricardo a little later in the season. I can’t announce the casting yet but we got the actor we wanted when we were doing our “wouldn’t it be amazing if we could get someone like” dream casting in the writers’ room."
