Following the Euphoria Season 3 finale, fans are now curious about the show's future. Although Rue is no more, many viewers might be wondering if there's a way to continue the story.

However, the simple answer is that there's no upcoming Euphoria Season 4 on HBO. The series has finally ended with the latest Season 3 finale, marking the end to the main character's journey.

Creator Sam Levinson and HBO have also confirmed that the series won't return. Earlier, HBO avoided mentioning Season 3 episode 8 as the series finale, which gave many fans hope that the show might return. However, now that the main character is dead, Season 4 is most unlikely to happen.

More details below.

As mentioned before, Euphoria Season 4 isn't happening. The series was never officially renewed for a fourth installment, and after the finale aired, both HBO and creator Sam Levinson indicated that the story had reached its intended conclusion.

During his interview on Popcast, Sam Levinson said:

"In terms of the story that we set out to tell, which is a story about addiction and its consequences, this feels like the end to me."

According to Levinson, the death of Rue Bennett was not simply included for shock value. He felt that when telling a story centered on addiction, it would be dishonest to ignore the very real dangers that many people struggling with substance abuse face.

The creator also explained that the story they wanted to tell has come to a natural conclusion. The main plot revolved around addiction and the consequences of it, which were shown through Rue. As a result, she lost her life after trying hard to overcome the challenges.

Why Rue's death was important for Euphoria Season 3 finale

The creator said that the story was "a tragic one in the end," but it's also the truth. He added:

"If you are experimenting or taking drugs today, it’s very possible it’ll kill you."

As seen in the finale, Rue dies after taking pills that contain fentanyl. So, Levinson argued that today's drug environment is particularly dangerous because substances are often mixed with fentanyl.

This makes experimentation or drug use far more deadly than many people realize. So, instead of giving Rue a hopeful end, the makers chose to feature a heartbreaking consequence because that's what happens to real people who struggle with addiction.

Season 3 could focus more on Maddy and Cassie's growth

While the final moments suggest that Rue has found peace, Cassie and Maddy's lives don't seem to have changed much, especially Cassie's. She's continuing with her OnlyFans account while experiencing grief and pain inside.

Season 3 did focus on her struggles, but there was barely any character development for her. Witnessing the tragedies in her life, Cassie could have chosen a path that actually made her happy instead of being stuck in the same place.

At the same time, Maddy is free from Alamo's control, but she deserves more. The last episode was longer than any other episode in the series, and these characters deserved more growth.
