Very few shows manage to capture the real chaotic yet loving nature of families, but Long Story Short did that when it premiered on Netflix in 2025. Created by BoJack Horseman creator, Raphael Bob-Waksberg, the show follows the ups and downs of the Schwooper family through the years, told in no specific order.

The show was renewed for Season 2 even before Season 1 was released. Here's how the creator reacted to it humourously.

BoJack Horseman creator, Raphael Bob-Waksberg on Long Story Short Season 2 renewal

To say Long Story Short is a success would be an understatement. The show, much like Bob-Waksberg's BoJack Horseman, is a show that has been loved. It has a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score at 100%. Netflix probably saw that coming and thus decided that the show needs to come back for a Season 2.

Bob-Waksberg, on getting the news of Long Story Short getting renewed for Season 2 before Season 1 even premiered, said,

“Wow! A Season 2?! It must be a REALLY good show. I can’t wait to watch it when it premieres on Netflix! Let’s all do that!”

That was a humourous reaction, and a reflected how much Bob-Waksberg loves the project. The show has always been been an extremely passionate project to the creator as it is inspired by his experiences growing up in a Jewish family. But as much as he wanted to represent the Jewish culture properly, he also did not want to stick to the stereotypes continuously. We also know he has an incredible sense of humour that sometimes makes you think deeply about what is it he made you laugh about, and it is very much present in Long Story Short. At the time the show was first announced, Bob-Waksberg also told Tudum by Netflix,

“It is legitimately a thrill and an honor to be back doing what I love most: drafting enthusiastic pull quotes for press releases to Hollywood trade publications. Who says you can’t go home again?!”

Season 2 of the show is in development, but a release date is yet to be revealed. The upcoming season is however expected to be released some time in 2026.

Long Story Short stars Lisa Edelstein as Naomi Schwartz, Paul Reiser as Elliot Cooper, Ben Feldman as Avi Schwooper, Abbi Jacobson as Shira Schwooper, Max Greenfield as Yoshi Schwooper, Angelique Cabral as Jen Schwooper, Nicole Byer as Kendra Hooper, Dave Franco as Danny Wegbriet, and Michaela Dietz as Hannah Schwooper, among others. New cast members are most likely going to join for Season 2, but that detail yet to be announced.

Other than being the creator, Raphael Bob-Waksberg also serves as showrunner and executive producer. Other executive producers of the show are Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen. The production companies behind the show are The Tornante Company, Vegan Blintzes, ShadowMachine, and Netflix Animation Studios.

Long Story Short Season 1 is streaming on Netflix. A release date for Season 2 is yet to be revealed. Stay tuned for more information.
