"It's been a long time since I’ve done a light-hearted romantic comedy": Ahn Hyo-seop opens up about his role in Sold Out on You

Sold Out on You is among the highly anticipated K-dramas of 2026, featuring Ahn Hyo-seop and Chae Wo-bin as the leading couple. The plot is quite interesting: it follows a farmer and the CEO of a research company who cross paths with a popular TV host, only for them to clash.

Sold Out on You will premiere on SBS on April 22, 2026 and is also expected to arrive on Netflix. Recently, Ahn Hyo-seop has opened up about playing the male lead and returning to the K-drama rom-com genre after some time. He said:

"... It's been a long time since I’ve done a light-hearted romantic comedy after ‘Business Proposal,’ so that’s something I’m looking forward to as well."

He continued:

"I’m grateful that I get to be part of this project,” expressing his appreciation for the strong interest and attention."

As explained above, the male character is not just a farmer known for his unique mushrooms but is also working as the head of his research company and developing a cosmetic brand. And when a V host arrives at his place to talk about a contract renewal, the farmer refuses. This creates comedic moments between them as the host must do everything to complete her task.

In the latest interview, Ahn Hyo-seop mentioned that it's a little awkward to be called "SBS's son" but at the same time he is grateful to have returned to the network as there's trust between them. What excites him most is coming back to a light, romantic genre after a long time, and he genuinely appreciates the attention the project is receiving.

The KPop Demon Hunters star also described Matthew Lee as "pineapple bun," which means the character appears cold or distant on the outside, but is actually kind and caring deep down. Ahn said:

"He looks stiff and cold on the outside, but inside he has a warm heart. Even if it doesn’t seem that way, he really takes care of the people around him and puts his heart into them."

He continued:

"And because of that, Matthew felt like the kind of guy who needs attention and love too. I think that’s why I was drawn to him even more."

Ahn also revealed, focusing on showing two contrasting sides of Matthew in Sold Out on You. Professionally, Matthew is sharp, confident, and almost flawless across his many roles. But socially, especially in personal relationships, he can be awkward and a bit clumsy.

As for his co-star Chae Wo-bin, she will appear as Dam Ye-jin in Sold Out on You, who lives a completely different life from Matthew and is famous in the city. She’s a star host on a home shopping channel, known for her ability to sell out products quickly.

She looks energetic and full of life, but Ye-jin is actually tired from work and struggles with insomnia. When she meets Matthew for work, he doesn't seem to be interested in her idea, and that becomes the basis of their comedic clashes.
