John Oliver had plenty to say about Donald Trump’s recent aircraft switch, turning an unusual travel moment into classic Last Week Tonight material. During the latest episode, Oliver poked fun at Trump after reports that members of his staff were left behind while the president switched planes on the return flight from a NATO summit in Turkey on July 8.
This is how John Oliver addressed Trump's controversial incident:
“The Iran War dragged on with a series of humiliating news headlines including this revelation about Trump’s trip home from last month’s NATO summit.''
For the uninitiated, Donald Trump reportedly snuck out of his Qatari-gifted Air Force One plane on his return trip from Turkey to the UK, after the Secret Service's warning about a possible Iranian attempt, leaving many journalists and White House staffers, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, onboard.
Reportedly, while Donald Trump was snuck out to a catering truck, which transported him to a smaller military jet for the return flight to the UK, many journalists and White House staffers were left on Air Force One as decoys, which invited another controversy for the US President.

John Oliver takes a hilarious dig at Donald Trump in Last Week Tonight

John Oliver took a direct dig at Donald Trump's airplane swap in Last Week Tonight. Calling it 'Fantastic,' Oliver hilariously quipped that Trump will have to invent a new trick to escape in the future, as the 'catering truck trick' is out in the open. The Last Week Tonight host added:
“People are going to be suspicious from now on if they see a plane go one way, a catering truck go another and an enormous man-sized cake get wheeled away by two suspiciously-jacked chefs.”
John Oliver capped his comment, saying Trump not only emergency-hid in a catering truck but 'a lot of people' were left on that plane, even after the reported Iranian threat. Taking another hilarious dig, Oliver was quick to remind everyone that there were a lot of innocent people on Air Force One 'and Marco Rubio.'
While John Oliver had a hilarious take on Donald Trump's airplane switch, many journalists who were on board the said flight have expressed their disappointment after the incident. According to the Washington Post, four journalists noticed a string of bizarre events during the flight, which eventually left them disappointed and betrayed by the White House's lack of transparency.
Check out the comments made by one of the journalists:
"We never were provided any opportunity to consent to being used like this. We aren't Air Force or Secret Service , we didn't sign up for this job to put ourselves on the line to protect the president."
Many have connected Trump’s White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt's resignation, which came shortly after the airplane swap, with the incident.
