Netflix is moving deeper into history with a new documentary project featuring Josh Brolin as lead. So far, the streamer has approved Josh Brolin's World War II docuseries and added a post-9/11 feature documentary to its Turning Point collection.

As per Deadline, World War II: Behind Enemy Lines is narrated by Brolin and has been produced by 72 Films. The team behind the production of 2023's World War II: From the Frontlines is working on this upcoming project. From the Frontlines won two Emmy Awards in 2024.

The 4-part series about the 101st Airborne Division's campaign in Europe will arrive later this year on Netflix. The plot covers the journey from D-Day to V-Day and uses colorized and previously unseen archival footage. The founders of the Fremantle-backed company, Mark Raphael and David Glover, are working as the executive producers of the series.

The upcoming Josh Brolin docuseries will present unseen footage collected from restored and colorized film. This material focuses only on the US Army's 101st Airborne Division. Instead of covering the entire war, the footage follows the unit's journey through Europe.

The docuseries will also show German Allied paratroopers defending themselves in Normandy before the sea invasion began. It will further show the war fought through European towns and countryside against strong resistance. The series will also include the defeat of Nazi Germany and the conclusion of the war in Europe.

A 26/11 documentary is coming soon on Netflix

Apart from the Josh Brolin docuseries, Netflix will drop Turning Point: Generation 9/11 on September 2, 2026. The documentary is directed by the creator of the Turning Point series, Brian Knappenberger, who covered the Cold War, the Vietnam War, and the attack of 9/11.

This new show focuses on a concept about how a single day can change an entire generation. It tells the stories of children who lost their parents in the attacks and reporters who began their careers during that time. The plot also shows young Afghans struggling with their lives during the attack and Marines facing the impact of America's withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The experiences of these individuals depict that 9/11 is not only found in history but also in the lives of those victims whose lives were devastated after the attack. The project is produced by Knappenberger's company Luminant. He works as an executive producer with Clare Tucker, Alison Klayman, Jennifer Janisch, and Sarah Huisenga.

Adam Del opened up about the new documentary of Josh Brolin

The VP of this documentary, Adam Del Deo, showed his patriotism by sharing about the series and audience's demand on Deadline. He said,

"History isn’t just something that happened, it shapes who we are and how we see the world. As the nation celebrated its 250th anniversary, that’s never felt more true."

The VP further mentioned that their work with Brian Knappenberger on The American Experiment and Turning Point exposed the demand level of the audiences for both shows. People of America had been waiting for the release of such a story that moves past surface history and places important events in a broader setting.

He further added that the same vision continues here with Turning Point: Generation 9/11 and WWII: Behind Enemy Lines, where the focus will be on presenting how these events shaped society and left a lasting impact.
