Kate Berlant, the actress and comedian well-known for her improvisational and anti-confessional comedy style, is going to bring us her first HBO stand-up comedy special. Titled Parmesan, the comedy is scheduled to be released in October 2026.

This is Berlant's second stand-up comedy special after Cinnamon in the Wind (2022) and will feature her signature style that is unpredictable and theatrical.

What is Kate Berlant's Parmesan about?

Parmesan is going to be released on October 16, 2026, on HBO at 10 pm ET/PT. The stand-up special will also be available for streaming on HBO Max. Before Cinnamon in the Wind, Kate Berlant did star and write in the sketch comedy, Would It Kill You to Laugh? with John Early. However, that was a sketch comedy special and not a stand-up special, making Parmesan her second stand-up special.

According to Warner Bros. Discovery, the comedy special's logline is:

Seamlessly weaving through personal stories and stream-of-consciousness epiphanies, Kate offers up razor-sharp reflections on everything from the moon, to her destructive relationship to technology, to the evolving nature of sexuality. Filmed at the historic Plaza Nightclub in Los Angeles, KATE BERLANT: PARMESAN is a hilarious tour-de-force that skewers the many contradictions of modern life and the art of stand-up comedy itself.

Parmesan is directed by Doron Max Hagay. Executive producers of the project are Kate Berlant, Naomi McPherson, Dave Kneebone, and Janel Kranking. The stand-up comedy special was filmed at Plaza Nightclub in Los Angeles.

Besides her comedy specials, Kate Berlant is also known for her film and television roles. Some of her best-known roles include Peg from Don't Worry Darling, Deena Michaels from Maddie's Secret, Molly from The Moment, Tilly from Wishful Thinking, Nia/Editor from Search Party, Shirley Cohen from A League of Their Own, Georgie from The Bear, and Rabi Cami from Nobody Wants This.

Besides Parmesan, Berlant is also going to star in other projects in the near future. Her future projects include The Dress Up Gang Movie, The Saviors, She Keeps Me Young, and Babies. All these films are in post-production, and a date of release is yet to be released.

As Warner Bros. Discovery also reports, speaking about Parmesan and Kate Berlant, the Executive Vice President of HBO Programming, Late Night & Specials, Nina Rosenstein, said:

“When it comes to Kate Berlant, the comedy is in everything – a look, a gesture, a pause that lasts a little too long. She’s completely unpredictable, incredibly precise, and always a beat ahead of everybody else. Kate and her director, Doron Max Hagay, found the perfect home for this hour at the iconic Plaza Nightclub in L.A., and every frame of this special is so unmistakably Kate, which is why we love it so much.”

We can thus expect to see Berlant's absurdist style with her unpredictability that somehow always manages to work better than most scripted comedy specials.

Parmesan will be released on HBO on October 16, 2026. You can also stream it on HBO Max after it is released.
