The Lanterns premiere sets up a lot of intriguing mysteries that we are excited to see play out. One of the creators of the DCU HBO show is none other than Damon Lindelof, one of the creators of the iconic ABC hit, Lost. For the uninitiated, the ABC sci-fi mystery follows a group of plane-crash survivors navigate a mysterious island.

While Lost was an instant hit back in 2004 when it premiered, the ABC series quickly went on to become a pop-culture punchline in 2010 because its ending did not satisfy the fans and viewers who had stuck around for the answers. The failure of the ABC series has followed Lindelof for nearly two decades.

This week the prolific writer has assured DC fans that Lanterns will avoid the mistakes of the ABC series.

Lanterns - What did Damon Lindelof say?

Lindelof attended a press conference, which was held to promote the Lanterns premiere. There, he assured the attendees that the DCU HBO series will not drag its mysteries out like the iconic ABC sci-fi show. Then, the Lost creator revealed some surprising things about the twenty-year-old ABC show. It seems ABC wasn't keen to put an end date on Lost, as it was the network's most popular show at that time. Damon Lindelof's exact words were:

“For a show that had a mystery engine, the audience was saying, ‘When are you going to tell us what the f**k is going on here?’ We’re like, ‘We really want to, but once we start answering mysteries, the show is coming down the hill, it’s closer to the end.’”

Lindelof's words were not surprising because fans started to feel like the sci-fi series was feeling stretched out by the end. But it seems that the writer has learned his lesson as he went on to reveal that the DCU series will end with a resolution to all of the mysteries set up in the premiere. Revealing that Chris Mundy wanted to tell a complete story, Damon Lindelof said:

“He said, ‘I want to tell a complete story. We’re going to do a mystery, and then, more importantly, we’re going to have a relationship story between these two guys that feels resolved at the end of the story that we’re telling.’"

The writer continued:

“We want the audience to be really hungry for more when it ends. I think that it feels like it was a really good meal, but a couple of hours after you’ve consumed it, you’re going to say, ‘I think I want to spend some more time in that world.’”

What do Lindelof's words mean for the DCU series?

It basically means that the HBO Green Lantern show will tie up all the loose ends, such as who killed Hal Jordan in 2026 and, more importantly, the reason behind his jadedness in 2016. Instead of stretching its mystery like Lost, Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King want to tell a satisfying story with an actual resolution.

As for Lanterns Season 2, Lindelof's words have two possibilities: there will not be a second season, or even if it were to happen, the follow-up will have a different story.
