Lanterns Episode 6 namedrops the DCU Caped Crusader just a day after Batman Day

One of the most discussed scenes in the latest Lanterns episode is just half-a-second long, but this scene includes a shout out to the DCU Batman, a role that remains uncast. The reason why this scene is significant is because this reference arrives just a day after Batman Day. Hal Jordan even alludes to Batman by calling the Caped Crusader "Bat guy".

This reference to Batman feels like a culmination for the DCU HBO series, as the show was slowly building up its references to the Caped Crusader since the second episode of Lanterns.

Lanterns has slowly been building up references to the Caped Crusader:

The first reference to Batman in the HBO Green Lantern series is in the last act of the second episode. There, we learn that Kerry Kane isn't from Rushville. Instead, she moved into the Nebraskan town from Gotham. In last week's fifth episode, we are given a proper context to Kerry's origin, who is on the run from a crime boss in Gotham.

Now, the reference to Batman in the opening minutes of this week's Lanterns episode comes on the heels of Batman Day, which was on this Saturday. Several fan theories surrounding Kerry's origin suggest that she is Bruce Wayne's relative from his mother, Martha's side. In the comics, Martha hails from the wealthy Kane family. But the family also ran afoul of a crime lord called Judson Pierce.

While last week's episode of the DCU HBO series did not confirm that Kerry Kane hails from the Kane family, it does confirm that her father ran afoul of a mob boss. This is why many believe that she is from the Kane family, something that the remaining two episodes of Lanterns might confirm.

Episode 3 also includes a Black Mask easter egg:

John Stewart is taken to an empty shopping center in episode 3 to meet one of the Guardians. One of the shops inside the center is Janus Cosmetics, a company rooted in Gotham in the comics. It belongs to the Sionis family, the same family that Roman Sionis/Black Mask hails from. A public scandal forces Roman to hand over control of Janus Cosmetics to Bruce Wayne.

Over the years, Roman has clashed with both Bruce Wayne on the field of business, and Batman as the ruthless crime boss, Black Mask. Thus, the inclusion of Janus Cosmetics does confirm Black Mask's existence in the DCU.

DCU Guy Gardner has taken a page from Batman's playbook:

The sixth episode reveals that Guy Gardner placed a Lantern signal in Rushville, much like the Bat Signal in Gotham. This signal, unlike the Bat Signal, is green in color, but the residents of Rushville loathe it, and therefore its base is painted with vulgar symbols as they haven't forgiven the Lantern Corps for Hal Jordan and John Stewart's role in the town's destruction in last week's fifth episode.

These overt references to the Caped Crusader have many fans hopeful that we get an update about The Brave and the Bold, the DCU Batman movie.
