Lanterns Finale, titled Dirt and Stars, was released on October 4, bringing Season 1 to an end. And while it gives John Stewart's journey an ending, it also leaves many storylines unanswered. Thankfully, the mystery of Hal Jordan's fate was solved, and John finally claimed his place as Earth's Green Lantern.

Whether we get another season will depend on the production, as the show has not been officially renewed yet. However, Lanterns co-creator Damon Lindelof confirmed to Collider that Season 2 is already in the early stages of development. This also means that the series has a good chance of returning for another season.

Until then, let's look at the questions the Lanterns finale left unanswered.

These big questions remain after the Lanterns Finale

What's next for Sinestro?

In the Lanterns Finale, we see Sinestro tied up, talking to John Stewart and even calling him an intern as he tells him that he wants to talk to Hal. John is in search of the truth and learns that Sinestro forged a lantern. Sinestro tells John that the Corps thinks that fear leads to weakness, adding that they couldn't be more wrong, as if controlled correctly, fear can be the most powerful force in the universe.

After much back and forth, he just leaves the place, leaving Sinestro alone as he begs not to leave him there as a castaway. This leaves Sinestro's story unanswered. Since he is important in Green Lantern, leaving him isolated feels temporary rather than a final decision.

What happens to Noah Macon?

In the end, John chooses not to kill the manhunter, believing his human side can overcome his old programming. John even says that he cared about the grandma who was a manhunter, as she saved John's life after he was almost burned alive in the car.

Noah reveals that he didn't burn Hal's house and even wanted to help him. He then says that Hal followed him, found the portal and what was inside it, and lies that he killed Hal because of the risk. Noah Macon, in reality, falsely confessed to killing Hal to protect his mother. It was Kerry who actually shot Hal, and Noah took the blame for her.

As tears flow down Noah's face, he asks whether he can overcome his programming, and John talks to him. Noah even asked John to kill him, but John instead let him go, believing he could be good. This decision also raises a bigger question about Noah's future. Will he be able to leave his past behind and become a good person, or could that old programming eventually turn him into a threat again?

John Stewart and Guy Gardner's future

The Lanterns finale also sets up an interesting question about John Stewart and Guy Gardner. John has decided to serve as Earth's Green Lantern, while Guy will continue looking after the rest of it. So, even though they are both Lanterns, they are clearly not seeing things the same way.

And this is where things get even more interesting. Both John and Guy are expected to appear in Man of Tomorrow, giving them another chance to meet. Now the question is, will they put their differences aside? Or could their very different ideas about being a Green Lantern lead to another fight?

Will Hal Jordan return?

Then there is the question of Hal Jordan. While talking to John, Sinestro claims that he could bring Hal back to life for real, saying:

"That ring is barely charged. We can overpower him. But I know a way. If we have your ring, I could bring you back to life, for real."

But Jordan tells him that he's talking too much and it's kind of annoying. Sinestro then turns to John and says that Hal doesn't want John to charge it because the moment he does, his entire existence is erased.

But in the end, John charges the ring. Now the question is why that line was included in the first place. The Lanterns finale leaves it unclear whether Sinestro was trying to confuse them or if he was telling the truth.

What happens between John and the Guardians?

John's future with the Guardians is another big question after the Lanterns finale. He has made it clear that he wants to be Earth's Green Lantern on his own terms. John even says that he wants to be an independent contractor with no Guardians and no Corps, and he is breaking the chain of command.

That puts the Guardians in a difficult position. Will they accept John's decision, or will they eventually come after him for going against them? The Lanterns finale does not give us an answer about that.

Speaking of John's new position as a Green Lantern, showrunner Chris Mundy told Entertainment Weekly that his status could be explored if the show moves forward. He explained that the team sees John as the Green Lantern of Earth, even though he is currently using what he knows to keep the Guardians in check, putting him in both a powerful and uncertain position.

Big mystery around the new Lantern battery

Sinestro created the new lantern battery on a planet filled with fear, and the battery already had yellow cracks running through it. While talking to Guy, John reveals that he is using that now to charge his ring. John even tells Sinestro that whatever is in the streaks is from the water and the air, their fear.

However, the finale doesn't explain what that could mean for him down the line. Since fear has often been connected to corruption in Green Lantern lore, this detail could be important.

Speaking of the fear surrounding Sinestro's new lantern, showrunner Chris Mundy explained to Entertainment Weekly that the lantern was not intentionally made with fear. However, the planet's contaminated water had traces of fear in it, which ended up becoming part of the lantern as well.
