Lanterns midseason trailer quietly hinted why there might be more than one Hal Jordan

The DCU HBO series, Lanterns, continues to pull in viewers every Sunday with an exciting hook. The closing minutes of the first episode already set up the central mystery of the series: who killed Hal Jordan. But over the past six weeks, some fans have even questioned if Hal Jordan is really dead in the HBO series.

This skepticism stems from the fact that the series is a comic book adaptation, a source material that is infamous for killing and resurrecting its heroes and villains. Moreover, James Gunn responded to a fan who accused the Lanterns creators of "disrespecting" the comics by killing off Hal. In his response, Gunn said:

"Hal's the star of TV series & he's in all the episodes so far. It's more live action screen time than all the live action screen time he's had combined throughout history. Kyle is amazing in the role. We more than respect him. We love him, despite his imperfections. Us knowing the time of his death, if that's exactly what that is, is absolutely not the same thing as killing him off right away. Hal is a big reason why the show is so popular with fans & non fans alike; sorry if you don't like it."

It is the 'if that's exactly what that is' part that has fans questioning if Hal is really dead. Then, there is also a shot in the midseason trailer. This shot has many believing that clones are involved in the plot.

The Lanterns midseason trailer has a shot of Hal with a unique mark:

One scene in the midseason trailer features Hal Jordan lying on the floor, with a mark in his right arm. The wound is the same one we saw on John's arm in the fifth episode after he is healed by Zoe's machine. This moment has some believing and theorizing that Kerry's son, Noah, is part Manhunter and has cloned Hal, placing a duplicate in the bleachers to make everyone believe that he is dead.

However, this is not the only fan theory about Hal Jordan's death in the DCU HBO series.

Another theory suggests that the Hal we saw in the 2016 timeline isn't real:

The Instagram account @tylor.ohhhhthehorror posted a reel in which the narrator says that there were two Hal Jordans, and one Jordan killed the other version. He pointed out that the mark on Hal's arm was similar to that on John's arm in episode 5.

But then, he went on to point to another behind-the-scenes image of Lanterns from 2024. In that image, Kyle Chandler is sporting a beard, a look which we haven't seen yet:

We see John punching a cloaked figure in a mysterious location in the episode 7 preview. Some believe that the real Hal went into hiding, and the one we saw in the 2016 portion was a duplicate all along. But we will learn more this Sunday, as the penultimate episode airs on HBO.
