Law & Order Season 26: New time slot, cast changes, and more updates

Law & Order is back for Season 26 this fall, but the series won't look exactly the same when it returns. Although NBC has confirmed the new 10 p.m. ET time slot, details about the full Season 26 cast are still being kept under wraps.

The previous season ended with the team dealing with a dishonest judge and a case that became bigger than they expected. On the other hand, D.A. Nicholas Baxter also got involved, leaving the door open for more problems in Season 26, scheduled to premiere on October 8. This leaves interested viewers with less than two weeks of waiting.

What is the new time slot for Law & Order Season 26?

The upcoming season of Law & Order is scheduled to be released on October 8, 2026, with the episode airing at 10 p.m. E.T. on NBC. The episodes will also be available for viewers to stream the next day on Peacock.

The timing is a little different from previous years, as the series is moving from its usual 8 p.m. slot to 10 p.m. On the other hand, Law & Order: SVU will now lead the night at 9 p.m. ET, before the original series.

Who is in the cast of Law & Order Season 26?

As of now, the complete cast list for the upcoming season of Law & Order has not been announced.

As reported by Variety earlier this year in July, Reid Scott will not return for Season 26, with James Badge Dale joining the cast as a new senior detective.

The cast of the previous season includes:

What will Law & Order Season 26 be about?

Season 26, like the previous seasons, will follow more criminal cases, including courtroom battles, as the detectives and lawyers return for the next chapter. In the trailer for Dick Wolf's series, viewers see D.A. Nicholas Baxter saying:

"We must fight as hard as we can to protect the people."

On the other hand, Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) is also determined to find out what is really going on, as she says the battle is what matters most. The trailer also includes Lt. Jessica Brady, Detective Vincent Riley, A.D.A. Nolan Price, and Detective Theo Walker, who stops a running suspect.

Detective Vincent Riley makes it clear that he and his squadmates are ready to do whatever it takes to get justice. The trailer ends with Baxter saying they need to "draw the line," before Benson adds that somebody has to. As reported by NBC, filming for Law & Order Season 26 took place in New York City.

Speaking about joining the franchise, David Ajala reportedly told NBC Insider last year that being part of a well-loved show feels "very, very special." He added that people often recognize the show and its actors when shooting in New York City and that they take photos and videos and show how much the series means to them. He continued:

"To be part of something that is so well-loved is very special."
