Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 27 Episode 12 Hubris follows the SVU team as they investigate a child abuse physician who misuses her power.
Dr. Bettany Allen (Kate Burton) is a Bronx-based physician who declares false abuse claims to separate young kids from their biological parents and put them in foster care. So, how did Benson and the SVU team expose her malpractices? It all starts with a phone call as the cops inform Benson that they rescued a teenager and a man. The teen looked disoriented and injured, and she refused to speak up. She was taken to the hospital. Soon, they find out that her name was Riley Williams and she was under foster care.
Unfortunately, her biological father, Nate, lost her custody after he was wrongly accused of abuse. Benson figures out that something was wrong with the system. She digs deeper, and they find out that it was Dr. Bethany Allen who was giving false reports of child abuse. She targeted black single parents mostly. In the end, she was accused of perjury.

Kate Burton plays Dr. Bethany Allen in Episode 12 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 27. She's a child abuse physician, and she misuses her power. She clearly has a problem with black single parents, and she tries to wrongfully accuse them of child abuse.
For instance, in Riley's case, Nate lost her custody due to Dr. Allen's false claims. She never met Riley, and based on mere medical reports, she stated that it was abuse. In reality, Riley broke her arm while playing volleyball. Dr. Allen accused her of lying to protect her father. Riley was put in foster care, and her life spiralled down. In another instance, Dr. Allen manipulated a child's blood-clotting report just to put her mother behind bars. In the end, she was proven guilty of perjury.

Sean Patrick Thomas plays Nate Williams
Sean Patrick Thomas plays Nate Williams, Riley's parent, in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 27 Episode 12. He was wrongly accused by Dr. Allen of torturing his daughter, who broke her arm while playing volleyball. Due to this incident, Nate lost custody. Later, when Benson and team expose Dr. Allen's malpractices, the chances of Nate winning her daughter's custody increased.
