Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 27 Episode 12 recap: Benson tries to help Riley Williams

When Benson speaks to the young girl, she slowly starts opening up. Her name is Riley Williams, and she was in foster care. Unfortunately, she was sold to a pimp who threatened that if she did not comply, she would never get to meet her biological father. Turns out, her caseworkers were often changed, and they never properly checked up on her. Her foster mother's boyfriend pimped her for money.
Turns out, her responsibility was given to a single woman, Monique Sherman, her foster mother. Unfortunately, Monique's boyfriend, Marcus, was a monster. He has a criminal record, too. He was released from prison a few months back. He was put behind bars for promoting prostitution. The caseworkers weren't aware of Riley's condition; if they had known about Marcus, they would not have allowed Riley to remain in the home.
Benson arranged a new caseworker for her who would look after Riley's welfare. Riley left the hospital and went to meet her father, Nate Williams. Nate lost custody after her wife passed away because he was accused of abuse.
Riley meets her father

After the hospital visit, Riley rushes to meet her father, Nate. Nate was wrongfully accused of abuse, and thus, he lost Riley's custody. Riley once broke her arm in the Bronx while playing volleyball. The Bronx SVU investigated the matter thoroughly. But when Dr. Bethany Allen took up the case, things took an ugly turn for the Williams.
Dr. Bethany Allen's fake allegations

Dr. Bethany Allen (Kate Burton) accused Riley of lying to protect her dad in Episode 12 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 27. She twisted the case, and it portrayed Nate in a bad light. She was a child abuse physician, and she said that the injury was caused by Riley shielding herself from a blow. Since she was an expert, no one questioned her, and Nate lost custody.
Benson tried her best to help Riley return home. She was separated from her father for four long years. She was abused in the foster homes, and all she hoped was to return to her father. However, nobody listened to her plea. Bronx family court wasn't much of a help.
Captain Benson exposes Dr. Bethany Allen

Benson knew that the only way Riley could be back was by exposing Dr. Bethany's fake diagnosis. Benson found out that no doctor was willing to go against her. Turns out, she never met Riley; she just saw her medical report and reported abuse. Benson digs up more information about Dr. Bethany Allen.
In this episode, CJ gets his hands on a case that could expose Dr. Allen's malpractice. There was a new case where a single black mother was accused of hitting her son's head. The hit wasn't that hard, and the mother rang up the ambulance. It was found out that he has a blood-clotting condition that caused the bruise. Dr. Allen hid the actual results so that the woman could be put behind bars. It was found out that Dr. Allen had a problem with single black parents, and she always wanted them to be guilty.
During the jury, Dr. Bethany Allen was accused of perjury, and she was found guilty. In the end, she had to give up her medical license. The little boy reunited with her mother, and the chances of Riley returning to her father increased significantly.
