Lioness’s Zoe Saldaña explains why one Taylor Sheridan show is enough right now, discusses Season 4 chances

Lioness Season 3 brought forth an intense roller coaster ride of complexities for the characters, especially for Joe, Zoe Saldaña’s character. After the immense success of the first two seasons, the third season has also created a huge impact on the viewers.

From delivering a breathtaking performance as Joe to digging deep into the struggles that Joe goes through in the storyline, Zoe Saldaña’s performance in Lioness has left the viewers eager for more. Just as Joe, Saldaña’s path in taking on the role has not been an easy task. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Saldaña opens up about how doing one Taylor Sheridan show is enough, the difficulties of doing her character, and more.

Through the years, Zoe Saldaña has taken on multiple projects, which is also the same for Taylor Sheridan. This undeniably brings forth the question of whether Saldaña could possibly join another series of Taylor Sheridan, just as her co-star Michael Kelly has done. However, according to Saldaña, taking on another Sheridan project is not something she can do right now. In the interview, she notes that Lioness is all that she “can handle at this time”.

The primary reason Saldaña is not eager to take on another project of Sheridan is because of how intense taking Joe’s character is in the series. As she is “number one on the call sheet”, she has to be the “first one in” and also the “last one out”. Bringing life to such an intense character also takes months of preparation. Saldaña adds that she has to start “prepping months before anybody ever is able to prep”.

This is “a lot of work” for her and has become difficult. Hence, she cannot imagine “taking on more of a Taylor Sheridan" world. While speaking about the fourth season of Lioness in the interview, Zoe Saldaña adds that if the fourth season does happen, she would need Michael Kelly back as Deputy Director Byron Westfield.

Viewers have appreciated Byron Westfield’s presence in the storyline of Lioness, and Saldaña also thinks that she does not “see anybody else playing Byron”, as he is “excellent” in playing that character. Even though Michael Kelly has joined another Taylor Sheridan project, Landman, Saldaña jokes that Kelly “can’t be going there and doing more work” if Lioness Season 4 happens. She also adds that she is unaware of what Sheridan might bring in Season 4, noting,

“I don’t know if we’re able to go to a season 4”

It must be noted that there has been no official announcement regarding the renewal of the fourth season yet. However, viewers are eager to get another season of this intense series. Zoe Saldaña also speaks about the struggles that Joe goes through in the third season of the series.

In the interview, she notes that Joe was “forced to become that Lioness”. Joe was both the “target” and also “the Lioness,” which further put her in jeopardy.

In a previous interview with PEOPLE, Zoe Saldaña further explored the rigorous nature of bringing life to her character, Joe, in the series, noting that even though she has played multiple complex characters before this role, Joe’s character has “challenged” her in “a way that no other character has”.
