Lioness Season 3 sees Joe’s rescue take a brutal turn - Episode 6 recap ahead

The story in Lioness Season 3 has taken another dark turn in Episode 6 as the mystery around Joe’s disappearance finally starts to come together. She has been held captive for several days, and now it seems like she is still somewhere inside the United States.

But the biggest reveal comes when the real force behind Joe’s abduction is uncovered: It was Iran that wanted Joe out of the country. With the Americans closing in and the Iranians searching for a way out, Joe’s rescue has undoubtedly become a race against time in Lioness Season 3.

As seen in the latest chapter, her team races to figure out who took her and, more importantly, why. The episode also moves between the past and the present, revealing the events leading up to Joe’s kidnapping and the desperate search happening in the present.

Lioness Season 3 Episode 6 recap: The past timeline reveals the growing danger around Joe

Episode 6 of Lioness Season 3 reveals what happened six months before Joe was abducted. The CIA and FBI were still dealing with officials secretly working with foreign intelligence, and the FBI had already arrested more than 37 people.

Among these people were politicians and other senior officials, along with 23 foreign agents who did not have protection under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act. The CIA also handled sensitive cases privately to prevent scandals and maintain trust in the government.

Episode 6 of Lioness Season 3 continues, and we learn that Senator Ryan Olson became one of those cases after the CIA discovered that he had been receiving money from Russian contacts through different accounts and companies.

Mullins confronted Olson during a breakfast meeting with Byron, Kaitlyn, and Joe. Kaitlyn mentioned that a Russian agent had switched sides. Olson accidentally revealed that he knew exactly who they meant, confirming his connection to Oleksandra.

Olson was given a choice: resign and avoid prosecution, or face charges for treason, lose his assets, and possibly spend years dealing with the consequences. Joe then gave him another option: to end his life.

And guess what? Olson chose death by crashing his car into a truck. He died immediately, while the truck driver was badly injured. Meanwhile, Russian diplomats and intelligence officers were being removed from America as the CIA tightened its response.

Lioness Season 3 Episode 6 recap: Oleksandra becomes the key to understanding Joe's kidnapping

Episode 6 of Lioness Season 3 moved forward, and the CIA can be seen considering whether Oleksandra could become an asset instead of remaining in witness protection. Byron believed that she had great knowledge of Russian intelligence, which could ultimately help them.

But at the same time, Kaitlyn and Byron worried that Russia would target her and possibly her family in Kyiv. Kyle believed keeping her under American protection might actually be safer than leaving her hidden, as Russian and Chinese intelligence could potentially access information about protected witnesses. As for Mullins, he wanted Byron to ask whether Oleksandra would join the CIA.

Six months passed, and Kyle finally tracked Oleksandra down in Tulsa. She was living under the name Paige Weaver and was told that Joe had been taken six days earlier and was asked for her help.

After listening to Kyle, Oleksandra immediately noticed that the kidnapping looked similar to a Russian extraction operation. She explained that Russian teams could spend several days moving a captive between safe houses before using aircraft and eventually handing the person to another team.

This information from Oleksandra completely changed the investigation. The CIA had removed many official Russian operatives, but contract agents from countries including Belarus, Iran, and China were still operating inside America.

So, Oleksandra's information helped the team understand that the people behind Joe’s disappearance were not simply acting on their own.

Episode 6 of Lioness Season 3 finally reveals that Iran financed the operation to get Joe out of America. A Russian intelligence officer named Renat, connected to the embassy, appears to have accepted Iranian money and arranged for Belarusian contract agents to abduct Joe.

Joe was moved through safe houses before being taken by aircraft to Sugar Land. Renat then handed her over to Babat and the Iranian transit team, whose job was to get her out of the country.

Oleksandra predicted that the team might use a small airport near Houston because its long runway and lack of customs or air traffic control could make a quiet escape easier. Kyle, Cody, and Grady found a suitable aircraft, but armed pilots attacked them, leaving them with no option but to shoot the attacking crew.

At the same time, Tex and Randy came dangerously close to Joe’s safe house, but Babat moved her before they could enter. Joe’s team has now identified several safe houses and blocked possible escape routes, yet they still do not know her exact location.
