Lucky’s creators address whether Anya Taylor-Joy’s con artist could return after that finale

Apple TV's Lucky ended its seven-episode run this week as the finale, "All Good Things" dropped on the OTT platform on Wednesday. The seventh episode was a thrilling 46 minutes as the crime thriller culminated in a moment that no one saw coming. Simultaneously, Anya Taylor-Joy's protagonist also gets the ending she deserves, i.e., she is finally free.

But simulatenously, there are some disparate plot threads that are left handing by the end, which is why a lot of viewers have been wondering if the makers are working on a season 2 and whether Anya Taylor-Joy would return as Luciana "Lucky" Armstrong for a second round.

Lucky ending explained: What happens in the finale of the Apple TV?

Lucky and her father, John manage to survive the events of this episode, after it almost looked like Priscilla would shoot the two for stealing from her and Wayne. However, things take a dark turn as Priscilla shoots Wayne instead. Thus, Luciana and John survive with the millions of dollars at their disposal.

When he asks Luciana what to do with all the money, she gives up her portion of the loot and leaves him. She loves her father, but realizes that John never loved her as much as he should've as a father. As Luciana decides to live a life without her father, she is set for a peaceful life in which she can determine her likes and dislikes, and grieve Cary, something she has not done yet.

Thus, it seems that Anya Taylor-Joy's protagonist seems to have got her happy ending, something that she has been seeking since the premiere episode. Creator Jonathan Tropper addressed this ending in The Hollywood Reporter interview, that this was the endgame for Luciana:

“From the minute we started plotting the season, we always believed that for Lucky to truly be free and take her first steps into a new life, she has to do that alone. She can’t take the money with her, she can’t take her father with her, she can’t take Cary with her; she has to be stripped of everything in order to figure out who she is.”

However, the survival of Priscilla and has people wondering if the Apple TV series will have a season 2.

Will there be a season 2?

Showrunner Jonathan Tropper and Cassie Pappas have maintained that this is a miniseries and not a long-running one. Tropper, in the same THR interview revealed that he and Pappas are currently treating the Apple TV series a limited series, but he did not completely rule out a second season. His exact words were:

"For me, there was such a deeply character-driven story to tell here about this father-daughter relationship and this young woman’s need to get out and start living. So sucking her into it again, you risk just trivializing all the themes we played with her. “And now this time she’s fighting for her life!” Whatever it is, it wouldn’t have the same gravity or stakes."

Addressing the dangers of a follow-up, Tropper continued:

"The danger with sequels like that is always, at what point does it become The Brady Bunch goes to Hawaii? You have to really have a reason to do it. If somehow one of us came up with an amazing idea, it would be worth considering. But I think there’s something very complete about the story we told."
