Like every year, the 2026 Emmys' In Memoriam segment honoured the actors and talents who passed away in the past year through a heartfelt tribute. The wholesome segment remembered Schitt's Creek actress Catherine O’Hara, Dolly Parton, and Rob Reiner, among others, as Noah Kahan performed Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water."

However, fans were quick to point out that the Emmys' In Memoriam segment omitted Walker, Texas Ranger star Chuck Norris and Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Nicholas Brendon, among others. Fans took to social media and called out the Emmys for omitting Norris:

An X user was certainly not happy with Chuck Norris' omission from the segment:

"Chuck Norris didn’t make the In Memoriam. The In Memoriam made a mistake."

More on this in our story.

Fans call out Emmys' In Memoriam segment over Nicholas Brendon and others' omission

While the 2026 Emmys' In Memoriam segment was beautiful and featured more tributes than usual, it omitted some major names, including Norris, Brendon, Days of Our Lives actor Patrick Muldoon, Big Love star Daveigh Chase, 30 Rock actor Grizz Chapman, The Twilight Zone actor Robert Redford and The Gong Show panelist Jaye P. Morgan.

While a segment can't feature everyone who passed away in the last year, fans were especially furious with Nicholas Brendon's omission, as the 2026 Emmys held a highly anticipated Buffy the Vampire Slayer reunion with stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz to celebrate the upcoming 30th anniversary. Despite the stars saying that it had been a "tough two years," Nicholas Brendon (who played Xander Harris in the supernatural horror series) was not honoured at the Emmys In Memoriam segment.

An X user noticed and called out Brendon's snub at the Emmys 2026:

"I hope ya didn’t see the Zander snub at the #emmys."

Another user wrote:

"It was crushing. Waited and waited, but nuthin. Giles yes, Zander nay. Had my hopes up that maybe, maybe, they’d put Nicholas Brendon on the screen after Rob Reiner."

Some fans also called out the Emmys' In Memoriam segment for omitting Chuck Norris:

"Snubbing Chuck Norris from In Memoriam at the Emmys is the dumbest move of the night," wrote one user on X
"Snubbing chuck norris is wild; dude's a legend. better start prepping the "what have you done lately" rebuttals." commented another user on X

Emmys' In Memoriam segment honoured these late talents

While Chuck Norris, Nicholas Brendon and others were suspiciously omitted, the Emmys' In Memoriam segment honoured late talents like Tim Curry, Hayden Panettiere, and Bob Mackie.

Catherine O’Hara's Home Alone co-star Macaulay Culkin and Schitt's Creek co-stars Annie Murphy and Dan Levy kicked off the segment with heartfelt tributes to their on-screen 'Mama,' which naturally brought tears to everyone's eyes.

Dolly Parton's Steel Magnolias co-star Sally Field then paid a wholesome tribute to the late country music legend, who died in August 2026 after a battle with cancer. Field's tribute was accompanied by Reba McEntire's rendition of Parton's 1983 song, "Appalachian Memories."

Jamie Lee Curtis concluded the Emmys' In Memoriam segment by paying tribute to 'Meathead' Rob Reiner. The When Harry Met Sally director, who passed away in December 2025, also received a posthumous Emmy Award for guest-starring in FX's comedy series The Bear.

The 2026 Emmys were one of the biggest nights of Hollywood, honouring the best prime-time television programming of the past year. Apple TV's comedy-horror series Widow's Bay emerged as the clear winner of the night with 14 awards. The Matthew Rhys–starring series created Emmy history by winning the most awards ever for a comedy series in a year.
