Marshals Season 2 Episode 2, titled End of Watch, aired on CBS on October 11. The latest episode of the Yellowstone spin-off saw Kayce navigate his family's violent legacy while trying to protect his son Tate.

According to Fandom Wire, the harrowing events of the Marshals Season 1 finale and Tom Weaver's actions had made Kayce paranoid and overprotective of his son, who worships his grandfather, John Dutton, like a hero. While he rescued his son, Kayce had become overprotective and wanted to shield Tate from John Dutton's dangerous legacy. Andrea recognized Kayce's paranoia when he installed multiple surveillance devices near East Camp.

Here is the complete recap of Marshals Season 2 Episode 2.

Marshals Season 2 Episode 2 recap: Kayce's paranoia

Marshals Season 2 Episode 2 proved that Tom Weaver might be behind bars but his actions have left a lasting impact on Kayce.

While Rainwater and Mo arrived to repair the damage done at East Camp, Kayce was determined to find Tate, who was nowhere to be found. Kayce finally located Tate at John Dutton's grave in Marshals Season 2 Episode 2, which increased his fears tenfold. Tate and Kayce's conversation is at the heart of the episode, revealing that both the father and son remember the Dutton patriarch differently. While Tate insisted that John was nothing like Tom, Kayce feared that his family's violent legacy would be passed on to his son. Kayce wanted Tate to inherit his family's determination but wanted to put an end to the cycle of violence.

Wayne Plummer's case hit home for Kayce in Marshals Season 2 Episode 2

The case of the week involved Wayne Plummer, a disgraced law enforcement officer on a vendetta to execute people on his hit list who were responsible for ruining his career. The Marshals' investigation revealed that Plummer's overtly loyal son Boone, who was rejected from police training, had also joined his father's violent campaign, which added to Kayce's concerns about his violent family history.

The showdown took place at a memorial gathering for a murdered deputy, where Plummer was after his latest target, Chief Deputy Harry Gifford, who had a major end in his career's trajectory. Marshals Season 2 Episode 2 took a violent turn when the Marshals had to shoot down Wayne, but Kayce managed to sway Boone by delivering a befitting speech:

"He was flawed, but you loved him anyway. There's no shame in being loyal to family, but just because he marched through hell, that doesn't mean you have to become the Devil. Let today be his legacy, not yours."

Kayce's words worked their magic and Boone dropped his weapon.

In the final moments of Marshals Season 2 Episode 2, Kayce returned to East Camp after tackling a difficult case to find Rainwater and his men performing a cleansing ritual to rid the property of negativity. Kayce appreciated Rainwater's efforts but he feared that no ritual could separate him and the property from his family's violent legacy, which would be passed on to Tate.

Rainwater offered a different perspective, one that might help Kayce protect his son without controlling him. While Kayce sees himself as a reflection of his father, Rainwater believes Kayce has started to make different choices than John Dutton. For starters, Kayce realized his family's violent patterns and is determined to protect his son, which makes him different from John.

Speaking to TV Line, showrunner Spencer Hudnut revealed that Marshals Season 2 will continue to explore Kayce's relationship with his dead father, while protecting his legacy for Tate:

"This season, while Kayce is wrestling with how to guide Tate into manhood, he's also wrestling with his own relationship with his father. Tate has endured so much, so to come clean and sort of drag down one of Tate's heroes is something Kayce would never do."
