Marshals Season 2 is going to be released less than five months after Season 1 of the show wraps up, and the trailer for the upcoming season teases how Tate Dutton's future continues to be at stake. Season 1 ended with two hidden gunmen opening fire at Cal and Belle, and Tate going on a trip to Texas with Tom Weaver.

At the time, Kayce did not know that Tom was the one behind the attacks and had funded a kill squad to acquire East Camp. The season thus ended with Tate's life in danger, and according to the Marshals Season 2 trailer, his life is still at stake.

Marshals Season 2 is going to be challenging for Tate

When Tate boarded Tom Weaver's private jet, Kayce completely trusted Tom, believing Tate was just going on a fishing trip to Texas. However, we saw Tom's foreman Jeb secretly telling Weaver:

"It's handled, sir,"

which confirmed that Tom was the one behind the attacks and that Tate wasn't actually safe with him. At the end of Season 1, Kayce had no idea the risk he was putting his son in. As the Marshals Season 2 trailer reveals, Tate will be out of danger, but only for a while. He will be reunited with his father, only for his life to be at stake once again.

Marshals Season 2 reveals that Kayce and the Marshals will be heading to Texas to rescue Tate and will be successful in doing so. However, that won't stop Tate from being a Dutton. As Kayce says in the trailer:

“The Dutton family legacy is never about land. It’s about always having to fight. Seems like no matter where I live, someone’s willing to kill for it.”

Thus, Kayce will continue to have to fight for his land as Tom Weaver tries to acquire it and will also have to protect his son at the same time. Tate might not have to fight for their land, but he will have his own hardships. We see the father-son duo at John Dutton's grave, as Kayce says:

“It hurts my heart thinking of all you’ve been through,”

Tate reassures his father, saying:

“I’m strong, like how you raised me to be. It’s the Dutton way.”

Tate will be understandably tainted with whatever Weaver has made him go through, but he will choose to persevere. However, as we see in the Marshals Season 2 trailer, his life is going to be at stake again. In the trailer, we see one of Tom Weaver's foremen tell Kayce that Tom has upped his offer for East Camp.

Kayce sticks to his decision of not selling the land, but then the man sent by Tom tackles Kayce, pushes his head on a table, and tells him:

"I'd reconsider given your son's future's at stake."

Interestingly, this scene in the trailer comes right after Thomas Rainwater tells Kayce:

"You're looking for a guarantee that Tate will escape unscathed from all the death and violence. No one can give that to you, Kayce.”

These two parts of the trailer don't bode well for Tate, and it looks like he's going to face a tougher time in Marshals Season 2.

Marshals Season 2 will premiere on CBS on October 4, 2026.
