Marvel reportedly working on a series centered around its youngest superheroes

The Multiverse Saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is nearing its conclusion with Avengers: Doomsday set to release this December and Avengers: Secret Wars next year. As that happens, rumors continue to circulate about the superhero franchise after Secret Wars. The studio already confirmed the X-Men movie as one of the first MCU projects after the Multiverse Saga last month.

A few months ago it was rumored that the studio was cutting back on its live-action TV shows set in the MCU continuity. But recent rumors suggest the opposite. It seems that the studio set up a new production company called Veil Productions to develop a Disney+ show revolving around a group of young superheroes.

This week, Murphy's Multiverse published a report stating that Veil Productions, the new production company set up by Marvel Studios, is developing a superhero show revolving around a group of young superheroes for Disney+ under the working title, "Slumber Party". However, we should approach this rumor with skepticism, as Murphy's Multiverse is not a well-reputed site.

There are two different possibilities for this rumored project: one being the long-in development Young Avengers project. The last scene of 2023's The Marvels even ended with Kamala Khan meeting Kate Bishop, suggesting the formation of the Young Avengers team. Since then, there has been no movement in this project. Sometimes, it was even rumored that the project was titled "Champions".

But, since then, we haven't heard anything about the project. However, now that Iman Vellani is co-hosting the Countdown to Avengers: Doomsday podcast, fans hope that the Kamala Khan actress reprises her MCU role. But if it is a Young Avengers project, then the MCU has an opportunity to bring back a character that was abandoned.

The character is none other than Nate Richards/Iron Lad, a sixteen-year-old heroic variant of Kang the Conqueror. This version of the character learns about his future and does his best to stay on a heroic path. This unique introduction could set up Kang and his more villainous variants throughout time.

However, it should be noted Young Avengers are not the only iconic young superhero team in the comics:

Long before the Young Avengers' first appearance in 2005, the X-Men comics spun off to a team of young superheroes called the New Mutants. Many believe that the new Disney+ series might be a X-Men spin-off, as "Slumber Party" is also the title of New Mutants #21, the comic published in the 1980s.

If the rumored Disney+ show is a New Mutants series, it would be the second adaptation of the superhero team. The first adaptation of the team was released in 2020 as the last project of the long-running X-Men film franchise released by 20th Century Fox. The 2020 movie starred Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams and Stranger Things actor Charlie Heaton.

"The New Mutants is an original horror thriller set in an isolated hospital where young mutants are being held for psychiatric monitoring, including Magik, Wolfsbane, Cannonball, Sunspot, and Mirage. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive."
