Matori & Kyoken Men in the Back Alleys Episode 1 recap: Umezawa's customer creates chaos in the club

Matori & Kyoken Men in the Back Alleys Episode 1 starts with a scene of a club in Roppongi. A customer gets high on cocaine and asks the waiter for more drugs. However, the waiter asks him to pay for it first. The customer loses control and stabs the waiter, after which he finds the cocaine and inhales it. Ultimately, he dies, and the video of him stabbing the waiter and dying goes viral.

Turns out, he was Umezawa's customer. Umezawa also sees the video and calls him an amateur. On the other hand, the police and narcotics also see the video and start their own investigation to find the actual drug dealer.

Kurosaki meets Katsuragi at the investigation site

Episode 1 introduces viewers to another main lead, Kurosaki. Kurosaki works in the narcotics department and has an obsession with the drug case. Even while entering the club, he makes it clear that he is not from the police but from narcotics.

Turns out that the customer died from the drugs that he took from the waiter. Kurosaki also meets Katsuragi at the club, and from their expression, it is clear that the two are not very fond of each other.

On the other hand, Umezawa is frustrated with the whole situation after his customer got caught. He also gets beaten by the people he works for. Umezawa started as a childhood actor but later lost his job and started working with the drug dealers to clear his debt. The gang also makes it clear to Umezawa that he can't escape at this point and gives him two days to pay them the amount.

Kurosaki is one step ahead and starts tailing a person whom the team suspects of dealing with drugs. Umezawa and his group were packing drugs in an apartment when another member told him that people had noticed them. Umezawa becomes alert, packs everything in a bag, and leaves.

However, Kurosaki quietly stays behind and catches Umezawa without alerting his team. Umezawa, who knows what's going to happen to him, fights back and even punches Kurosaki. However, Kurosaki takes him down and injects a dose of cocaine.

Umezawa starts panicking, thinking he is going to die, and even asks Kurosaki how he can kill him. Kurosaki lets him know that it's very normal for drug dealers to die of overdose, and nobody will suspect Kurosaki of the same.

Kurosaki questions Umezawa about the people he works for. Umezawa, who was hell-bent on not revealing a thing, finally tells him that he works for Matsubara.

Kurosaki offers Umezawa to work for him as a spy and use his contact with Matsubara to take down the big drug cartel. Kurosaki warns him that if he runs, Kurosaki will leak the details about him to the criminal underworld about being a spy, which can either kill him or lead him to prison. Even if Umezawa doesn't want to work for him, he doesn't have any choice left.

In Matori & Kyoken Men in the Back Alleys Episode 1, viewers also see a man taking photos with people and meeting a woman who asks for a picture. The man asks her out for a snack and puts cocaine in her food, which makes her lose consciousness. The episode ends with him taking the woman to a hotel room and giving her more cocaine.
