Matori & Kyoken Men in the Back Alleys finale recap: Umezawa finds himself in a difficult situation

Umezawa, who lied about working for narcotics, couldn't prove the same to Saeki. In the final episode, he comes up with multiple plans, calling himself superior to Kurosaki and being undercover for the narcotics just to protect himself. However, all his theories fail, and Saeki asks him to kill Kurosaki to prove that he is trustworthy. On the other hand, the gang kills Umezawa's boss, Matsubara.
When Umezawa is taken to Kurosaki for a fight, the narcotics agent gets up and starts fighting for his life. As the two start to fight, they come up with a plan to take down the group's leader, Saeki. Unfortunately, this doesn't go as planned, and Umezawa is given a knife to stab Kurosaki.
Kurosaki, once again, just wanted to safeguard Umezawa and asked Umezawa to stab him near the left abdomen. Umezawa refuses to do so, and as the last choice, Kurosaki himself stabs his left abdomen. Umezawa sees the opportunity and jumps from the building with wounded Kurosaki.
The narcotics agent asks his spy to run and get help from the narcotics department. Just when Umezawa was running to find help, he got hit by Saeki.
Matori & Kyoken Men in the Back Alleys Episode 9 recap: Katsuragi comes to the rescue

Just when there was no hope left for Umezawa and Kurosaki, Katsuragi came on the scene with other police officers and arrested the gang members. Turns out that even Katsuragi was tracking Umezawa through the suit Umezawa wore. Umezawa gets frustrated at Katsuragi and asks him why he didn't come in sooner to save them.
Katsuragi has been playing it safe and looking out for himself from the very beginning. He says he wanted to "fatten the pigs before the slaughter," indirectly telling that he was waiting for the situation to worsen so he could make bigger arrests, and now he can even charge them with murder.
Matori & Kyoken Men in the Back Alleys ending explained: Umezawa plays his master move
From the very beginning of Matori & Kyoken Men in the Back Alleys, both Kurosaki and Katsuragi have been trying to take advantage of Umezawa. However, towards the end of the series, viewers see Kurosaki developing a soft spot for him and even trying to save him in multiple situations.
On the other hand, Katsuragi has shown his selfish behavior and his desire to get the promotion at any cost, even if it means putting someone's life at risk. In the final episode, he once again takes the credit by arresting Saeki and saving Kurosaki and Umezawa.
When Katsuragi tells his boss that the police didn't find anything in the Saekis' computer, he is told that the narcotics reached the office first. This leaves him frustrated.
Turns out, Umezawa copied everything on the USB and kept it with himself. On the other hand, Kurosaki, who ends up in the hospital, was upset with the whole thing. Umezawa tries to lift his mood by giving him the USB, stating that it has the name of the client along with the smuggling routes and the transactions.
Kurosaki tells Umezawa that he did great, which makes Umezawa emotional. On the other hand, Saeki is found dead in jail, which is later concluded as a suicide.
In the end, the three cross paths once again, with Kurosaki and Katsuragi walking past each other in silence, while Umezawa chooses Kurosaki's side.
