Prime Video has greenlit Carrie Season 2. Developed and executive produced by Mike Flanagan, all episodes of Season 1 premiered on Prime Video on October 7, 2026, and the show has been a success since then. Fans have not only loved Flanagan's version of Carrie but also his reimagining of Carrie's mother, Margaret (played by Samantha Sloyan).

The show's ending takes a departure from Stephen King's Carrie (1974), and thus, Carrie Season 2 will be based on an original story. In an interview with Collider, Mike Flanagan had said that he would like for the show to have 3 seasons. With Carrie Season 2 getting greenlit, Flanagan is closer to that goal.

Carrie Season 2 will follow the titular character's upcoming adventures

Prime Video's Carrie is set in a different time than King's 1974 novel, but it interprets the core themes of the story pretty well. While fake Instagram accounts and online bullying are used as a weapon against Carrie, they still gut her the same as the traditional forms of bullying.

While Carrie died at the end of the 1974 novel, she lived at the end of the Prime Video show. That was a way Mike Flanagan kept the door open for Season 2. As he had said to Collider a while back, he would love for the show to have 3 seasons. He's getting closer to getting just that. At the end of Season 1, Carrie survived the house collapsing on her and her mother and drove away from Chamberlain with Emaline West.

Margaret also survived the initial house collapse and used telekinetic powers of her own before Adelaide secretly killed her by stopping her heart (staged as a heart attack). The show also revealed that Adelaide belongs to a secret organization tracking psychics. That hinted at the existence of a wider Stephen King universe connection, like perhaps with the stories of The Shop or The Shine.

Season 2 will thus show us where Carrie is headed next, if she will find other women like her, and perhaps finally feel understood. As Deadline reports, speaking about Season 2, Mike Flanagan said in a statement:

“For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White’s story. From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next."

Stephen King is an executive producer on the show and thus has been working with Flanagan on the show's story. Speaking about Carrie Season 2, King said:

“I can’t wait for audiences to get to see what’s down the road for Carrie White. Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next. It’s bound to be thrilling.”

As Deadline also reports, the head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, Peter Friedlander, spoke about the show, saying:

“Carrie is connecting with both longtime Stephen King fans and a new generation altogether — including young adults and international audiences, with particular strength among female viewers."

He continued:

"It speaks to the enduring power of this story and signals that Mike Flanagan’s reimagining of the iconic IP has real breadth. We’re excited by where he and Stephen plan to take the story.”

It is yet to be revealed when filming for Carrie Season 2 will begin or when the season will be released. So far, only Summer H. Howell is confirmed to return for Carrie Season 2 as Carrie White. Other cast members like Siena Agudong, Josie Totah, and Kate Siegel, who play Sue Snell, Tina Blake, and Adelaide, respectively, might return for Season 2, but that's yet to be confirmed.

Carrie Season 1 is streaming on Prime Video.
