Apple TV's Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 recently premiered its finale. In the final episode, Titan X finally returns to Axis Mundi with the help of Cate and the others.

While it looked like all the Titans were gone for good, the finale gave the viewers a glimpse of a new Titan named Rodan. Lee Shaw spots Rodan, a winged pterosaur Titan, atop a volcano in Thailand. While the episode did not reveal much about the Titan, it is speculated that the potential Season 3 might revolve around a Rodan-centric story.

More on this in our story.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 - What is Rodan? Details explored

In Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 finale, a brutal clash between Titan X and Kong takes place. However, none of the Titans lose their life as Titan X finds a way to get rid of the neuro implants and spots her egg to take it back. Realising that the Titan was just trying to protect its egg, Kong stands down and lets the Titan return to Axis Mundi with the help of Cate and the others.

Later, as Cate and the others join Monarch and begin their work, Lee is shown to be traveling to Thailand. Here, he learns that Kentaro and Isabel Simmons have not given up on their plans to use Axis Mundi as a time machine and are looking for another Titan that could open a rift.

Although he is informed that they have not yet been successful, Lee learns that there is still a Titan on Earth's surface. He is taken by A-Wut and his men deep into a forest where he spots the winged creature atop an active volcano. Lee mumbles that he will soon see the Titan again before leaving, hinting that this latest creature might be seen in a potential Season 3.

The winged Titan, named Rodan, is not its first appearance in the Monsterverse. We have encountered it in various Kaiju projects, including Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla vs. Kong. The Titan is known for its loyalty to the King of the Titans, as initially, it sided with Ghidorah, but after the latter's death and Godzilla becoming the head of the Titans, it switched sides. Since Apple TV's Monarch shows Godzilla as the King of the Monsters, Rodan might appear to follow behind rather than fight it.

In a recent Gold Derby interview, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2's EP, Tory Tunnell, talked about how the introduction of this new Titan in the Apple TV series opens up new opportunities and stories to be told, and stated:

"We are excited about the possibilities of Rodan. And we don't oversell his story in the finale; we just give you the mystery. That gives us the opportunity in the writers' room to really build something that's going to be magnificent."

While Apple TV has not renewed the series for Season 3, the crew and fans are hopeful about another chapter that would explore the Titans further and depict Isabel and Kentaro's nefarious plan to bring Hiroshi back from the Titan realm.
