Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 premieres on Apple TV on February 27, 2026.
The 10-part season will release one Episode weekly on Fridays up until May 1, 2026. The series is also bringing back its main actors Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett, and Anders Holm with several new guest stars, including Amber Midthunder, Cliff Curtis, and Dominique Tipper.
The most discussed aspect coming into the new season is not a returning character or a recognizable monster; it is a completely new monster named Titan X. Apple TV has described Titan X not as a mere monster but “a living cataclysm.” The monster is the center of the main mystery of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2, and what has already been disclosed is making the internet ablaze with speculation.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2: What is Titan X?
Titan X is a water Titan within the Monsterverse, which will be featured as the main antagonist of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2. It is an original production, having never featured in an earlier Godzilla movie or other MonsterVerse production. In an interview with the SFX Magazine, executive producer Tory Tunnell stated it is something the audience has never seen on screen before and referred to it as “dynamic and exciting.”
Regarding the actual appearance of the creature, trailers and promotional content have provided fans with some information to play with. Titan X is a large aquatic creature, grayish-purple with a fish-shaped body, covered with bioluminescent spines, has a tooth-filled mouth full of dozens of razor-sharp teeth, has four pairs of yellow-striped sea-turtle-shaped flippers, and has several extremely long cephalopod-like tentacles that are armed with barbed and serrated hooks. It has been compared in general appearance to an anglerfish-squid mixture, with a reptilian or dragon-like head replacing the topmost one.
The world appears to be holding its breath when Titan X breaks the surface of the ocean in its bioluminescent form. It is said to be an ancient power that comes out of the deep, and its mission is unknown, and its power is unmatchable.
The size of Titan X in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 is also worth mentioning. The monster is even said to be bigger than King Kong and Godzilla, and spends much of its time in the sea. The initial teaser released before the complete trailer only revealed its shadow, and the shadow was large enough to swallow a whale.
The residents of a new enigmatic village named Santa Soledad call Titan X “El Gran Dios Del Mar,” which in Spanish means “The Great God of the Sea.” It implies that the creature is not a discovery to the communities along the coasts, although the rest of the world may be just coming to know about its presence.
Regarding its weaponry, the trailer reveals that the tentacles of Titan X have serrated barbs on them, meaning that they can not only constrict, but also lacerate any other Titan. This renders it a danger even toward strong creatures such as Kong and Godzilla.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 continues where the previous season left off. Cate Randa, played by Anna Sawai, is seen struggling with the consequences of her actions. She ponders over the idea of opening the rift and says she released the “genie out of the bottle,” that genie is Titan X, a mythical Titan, who has surfaced out of the sea, and whose aim is to destroy all in its path.
Lee Shaw, the character played by Kurt Russell, concludes that to kill a monster, they will need another monster (or two). That results in the dramatic move of calling in both Kong and Godzilla to confront Titan X together. It is emerging as the largest monster fight that the show has ever tried.
The name of the creature, Titan X, is also technically a promotional name and not the in-universe name of the creature. Tory Tunnell, the executive producer, described the naming process as an attempt to run outlandish names, see if there is something intuitive or Latin, and then settle on something that simply feels right. The real name of the creature will be unveiled in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2.
Titan X is amphibious and goes on land to fight Kong on Skull Island, and this implies that the battle will not be confined to the water. The fans can anticipate the creature coming out of the water and causing mayhem on land as well.
Titan X is entirely original and one of the biggest threats to the MonsterVerse to date. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 is preparing to become a big event among franchise fans. The release of new episodes on Apple TV begins February 27, 2026.
