A few hours ago, Netflix launched the official trailer for the new documentary series Mourinho. The docuseries is releasing globally on August 11, 2026. The story surrounds the life of a revolutionary football manager, José Mourinho, whose career has created more brilliant moves, contradictions, and headlines than most others. The director Joe Pearlman took two years to film the TV show.
The motion picture highlights his rise as one of the most successful and outspoken figures in the sport. His career kicked off after he won league titles in four different nations and lifted the Champions League twice while managing FC Porto and Inter Milan.
The documentary was created by the producers John Battsek and David Beckham. Both of them worked with BAFTA and Emmy-nominated director Joe Pearlman and landed the picture successfully on one of the most popular streaming platforms. The recently released trailer of Mourinho shows the manager's rise to success, beginning with his Champions League victory at Porto. The series shows how José changed the concept of what it means to be a football manager.
The trailer further highlights his journey to reshape English football after winning two Premier League titles with Chelsea. He then moved to Inter Milan, where he secured another Champions League trophy.
The trailer also revisits his spell at Real Madrid, where his Cristiano Ronaldo-led team clashed with Lionel Messi's Barcelona. During his time as Real Madrid manager from 2010 to 2013, he set up a more adaptable 4-2-3-1 formation.
Xabi Alonso and Sami Khedira worked as the two deep midfielders, Mesut Ozil played in the central attacking role, and Angel Di Maria and Ronaldo operated on the wings. Karim Benzema was positioned as the lone striker at the front.
The manager then went back to Chelsea and won another league title. After that, he managed Manchester United, Roma, and Tottenham Hotspur and achieved mixed results.
What did the teaser reveal?
The teaser opened with a scene showing José walking into his office room filled with football memorabilia. He called those memorabilia "little box". The star manager proudly presented boots dedicated to him by Diego Maradona. He said
"I have Maradona boots dedicated to me. This is Diego."
He then took out a Cristiano Ronaldo jersey from the wardrobe and said,
"This is Cristiano Ronaldo in his first season as a professional in Sporting."
Mourinho looked back on his long career and pointed out that he began winning trophies in 2003 and kept collecting them until 2022. The teaser wrapped up with a lighthearted touch. Someone off-camera pointed out the funny contrast that he's making these serious comments while standing right in front of a giant mural of himself.
