The Watcher Season 2 was greenlit by Netflix back in November 2022, approximately a month after the first season aired. However, there had been no updates regarding Season 2 since then. Now, as Netflix reveals, The Watcher Season 2 is finally in production, with Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale returning in leading roles. The Watcher Season 2 begins filming 4 years after getting renewedThe Watcher is loosely based on The Haunting of a Dream House by Reeves Wiedeman, which in turn is based on a true story. In reality, a couple, Derek and Maria Broaddus, were sent mysterious letters by a stalker who claimed to be watching them after they bought a home at 657 Boulevard in Westfield, New Jersey, in 2014.Due to the letters, the couple ended up selling the house at a significant loss and never moved in. The real watcher was never identified. Netflix's The Watcher dramatizes the incident, but much like what happened in reality, it hasn't revealed who the watcher is.However, the identity of the show's watcher might be revealed in The Watcher Season 2. While Netflix renewed the show for Season 2 back in 2022, the production for The Watcher Season 2 has just begun, as the streamer revealed recently. Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale are reprising their roles from Season 1 as Nora and Dean Brannock.Season 1 ended with the Brannock's private investigator, Theodora, claiming to be the watcher on her death bed. However, Theodora's daughter, Nina, later revealed to Nora and Dean that her mother had lied to give Dean closure. Dean and Nora then sold the house at a huge loss and moved back to New York. But Dean couldn't let the mystery go. He drove back to Westfield to watch the new owners of 657 Boulevard. Meanwhile, Nora watched him from her own car, concerned for his mental health. They both eventually became watchers as well in their attempt to discover who was watching them.Besides Watts and Cannavale, Isabel Gravitt and Margo Martindale are returning for The Watcher Season 2 as Ellie Brannock and as Maureen, respectively. Thus, we will see what lies ahead for the Brannocks. The show will either reveal the identity of the watcher in Season 2 or never reveal it, keeping the mystery alive.Keeping the mystery alive will allow the show to show how much more obsessive and paranoid the characters can become and how much this one unknown stalker can take over their lives.
